Poor Range

So I've had my SE now for 6 weeks and I love the way it drives however.... I am really disappointed with the range.
I'm not new to EV's so know that the WLTP range is not to be believed and that the cold weather/driving style can also have a negative impact but I am yet to have a predicted range of over 100 miles. It's usually between 88-98 miles.
That's 46 plus miles less than the WLTP - huge considering the low start point.
I've done around a 1000 miles from new and don't drive like a lunatic with car mostly in "mid" mode.
What are others getting and do you think that there may be something wrong with the car?
Cheers

I doubt if there's anything wrong with the car. The GOM's range predictions are a nonsense. Have you calculated the actual range you're achieving or looked at the car's record of average miles/kW (button on the end of the indicator stalk)?

It's not the best time of year to get to know a new electric car. Lights, heater, heated seats, wipers etc all take their toll.
When you've done a few thousand miles you will get more used to what it will do as regards range. Don't take a lot of notice of the GOM, it's not great!
I find in winter 1.2 miles to each range % works for me, in summer 1.5 miles to each range %. Range will improve with use but you'll often find a full charge in summer will only show 105 miles! However as you drive it will go quite a way before the range starts falling.
I have done 140+ miles on a charge, no problem. The best I achieved last summer was 80 miles for 50% range which equates to 160 miles range. It will do better on a decent run then running lots of short trips round town.
Give it some time you'll get there.

The GOM's range predictions are awful.
Currently, my GOM estimates a full range of 129 km/81 miles. That's fully charged, based on driving with snow tires and driving in -9C lately.
My commute, that I thankfully only have to do 1-2 times a week right now, is 110km each way to the office. Roughly 60% freeway speeds, and 220km (137.5 miles) round trip. When I plugged in at the office this morning I was at 47% SOC, meaning I got 110 km out of 53% of the battery (driving in Green mode). By the GOM that should have taken 85% of my battery, but it didn't.

The actual range in the winter isn't stellar, but it isn't nearly as awful as the GOM would have you believe. And in the summer? I get 230km easy from a full charge, and that little efficiency switch often goes the other way.

The range is not stellar, that is sure. But I didn’t expect any different. The quoted range on studies done is around 116 miles. It is also the same with other EVs and not surprisingly with average mpg figures for ICE cars as well. No cars like cold weather.
As others have said ( and several other threads on this Forum on this topic) the GOM isn’t very accurate. It is better to work using the % battery and your average power consumption. My average for 1 year ownership is around 15-16kw per 100km which gives a range of over 200km. However at the moment, with temperatures not getting much above 2C, it is higher than 18KW.

Advice : do get stressed with it, and enjoy the rest of the car.

Sorry I mean DONT get stressed

Thx for the replies everyone. I'm getting around 3.7miles/kWh so that's not too bad being mid winter.
Loving the car otherwise except for it's dirty bottom - so much road gunk gets thrown up on the boot and rear window I seem to be cleaning it as often as I charge it 😝

That's somewhat solvable with some mud flaps :) They're one of the first things I added to mine and they cut down the back-end muck a great deal.
I bought a wheeled undercarriage sprayer attachment for my pressure washer, it’s amazing at removing the muck and salt from beneath my MINI and my Subaru.

That sounds about right. That translates to 16,9 Kw/100km which is quite reasonable compare Tony figures. You can ill certainly get better than that in spring / summer. A lot depends on the route also. My 50km trip down the autoroute to the airport hammers the range. I can quite easily see peaks above 20 kw/100km if the wind is blowing 😢

Don't get me started about trying to keep my black roof clean!
That range sounds about right this time of year. I always use 70% of WLTP as my estimated winter range for any electric car. In the MINI Electric I drove last year I got 4.2 miles/kWh, so 3.7 this time of the year sounds about right.

😉 I waited for one of their fairly regular coupon codes and got 30% off…

As you probably already know, for range-precondition, make sure the tyres are well inflated-pre lci models have an eco setting, take off the aircon or use green plus mode-yuk, drive like a saint and below 56mph, avoid slowing fast even on regen or heavy braking-etc etc.
Cold weather, short journeys and fast speed and harsh acceleration (everything i can help avoid-car is too much fun) and saggy tyres and aircon etc all hammer range.

As others have said, it's kinda better to ignore the MINI's estimated range (GOM) - it's hopelessly pessimistic and would have you charging the car back up every five minutes. Far better to reset your odometer when you've just charged to 100% and keep an eye on how many miles you're getting as the % drops - that way, you'll get a far better indication of the current range capabilities.

The outside temperature (batteries don't like cold temperatures) and your driving style (high speed +60mph and harsh acceleration/braking) will negatively impact range. But Spring is round the corner and things will get much better, and cleaner!

It is crazy this time of year, my 100% GOM range can vary from 110miles to 85miles at the moment....My wife hates it and gets major range anxiety. Last weekend we set off with 100% showing 92 mile range, drove 86 miles with 4 stops and still got home with 24 miles range. I get 4.1-4.2 m/kW in the warmer months and 3.7-3.9 m/kW in the colder months.

Just ignore it and do as above. Use the odo

Mud flaps corrupt the air drag coefficient, so you will end up with less range again.

Your mileage is spot on with mine. You bought a car that claimed 100-110. It is reasonable to expect 80-100 real world. If you wanted range, you bought the wrong ev! This is a short commuter!

I have NEVER seen more than 100 miles FYI.

Your car is fine, enjoy it for what it is - a toy!
How many kw/mi are you using? My gom always says about 100 miles on a full charge. You do not buy these cars for range or anything else practical
