Has anyone experienced a delay by adding options once ordered?

I've been confidently told by my dealer that my MC will be delivered 1st week of July (not holding my breath) but I would quite like to add the variable damper control as I've ordered 17" wheels and what with England's potholes!?! I ordered on the 9th April and have been waiting very patiently..... I don't know if it's worth adding anything else if there is a risk of delaying it even further

I have contacted the dealers and she said "they won't be able to tell until I adjust the order" but will it be too late then if it does create a delay?

Just for the record:
MC
Moonwalk grey
Black roof
Black 17" cosmos wheels
Chilli pack
DRL/LED lights
Visual boost radio

If you want the option you want the option. If you don't get the option then it's not the car you want.

Whatever the delay, you'll have the car for longer than that and you don't want to be regretting a decision all that time. If you take it to the extreme you can buy a dealer demonstrator now and not choose any options. No delay, but is it what you want?

I think it just comes down to "Do you want the option?"

Having said that, I think I've avoided changing any bodywork related options (roof colour, sunroof, roof rails)... I don't know whether variable dampers would incur a delay.

Yeah very true, I think I've just had too long to look at the options again and again and the reviews again again lol! As I've ordered the Cooper I don't expect the suspension to be too hard I guess I'm just over thinking it. It's seems like a great bit of kit for under £400 I just remember when I ordered the car you can get so carried away and I think the LED headlights with DRLs were a must but £610 was a hard pill to swallow

I think we're in the same situation... I've ordered a cooper and not the variable dampers.

I've read some people say they can't tell the difference and other reviews say it's one of the best features. On the one hand I'm not a driving enthusiast as such, so maybe I wouldn't appreciate it. But on the other had I have the driving modes and maybe I won't get the full benefit of that feature without the dampers.

Arrrggghhh! I completely agree with you that we've been left too long to second guess our choices. I've already added more stuff twice!

I chose LED headlights too. Everyone says they're brilliant and the headlights on my current car are rubbish, so I'm not doubting that one!

Ill come from it from a different point of view

By now your car from the 9th of April ( my original one was put in two days prior before I cancelled on Monday - find my thread Not Happy) should have been locked in and no changes coming from you should ever take place now.

However because it's not and it got caught up in the diesel fiasco Mini are not building the petrols around that date when all **** broke loose with production therefore diesel builds are taking precedent - it has nothing to do with the petrol builds now - they will be honoured on time it's all about the orders that got stuck a few months back.

So when the stealer I mean dealer says you can add of course you can then he/she will tell you you have to wait until August September for delivery - don't be shocked about this because as mentioned those orders are subjected to the prior issues - those diesels will have to be built first.

How do I know?

It's happened to me and I had to order again from somewhere else when the original dealer I ordered from didn't even want to reorder the same car for me - arrogance.

Put whatever you need to put on - just be prepared for the rest

Their is no other delay from Mini other than bringing all prior diesel orders coming back into the fold

That is the updated info from this week from Mini/BMW from the top.

I checked with my dealer the other day and my car was at status 1100, so I managed to add LED headlights. The confirmation went into my Spam folder though, so I only signed the contract last night and emailed it back. I'm hoping the car hasn't jumped to status 1200 in the mean time.......fingers crossed! Even if it is status 1200, I wouldn't have thought LED headlights would require a change to the wiring loom......I may be wrong of course as I don't know much about them

Just as a curiosity how much to variable dampers cost and excuse my ignorance - what do they do?! I'm getting a 16" cooper.

As an aside I think @MintMark hit the nail on the head. Don't have any regrets in a year when you'd wished you'd ordered what you wanted all for the sake of an extra two week wait (or whatever it is) - once you've got your car you won't remember the extra time!!

GoKart7 that sounds like you've had a rum deal! It's so frustrating having to wait and all the BS and now I am aware it will probably be delayed due to the diesel issue is even more frustrating!

I'm not convinced the damper control is necessary on the cooper I think I just overthink all the potential issues and benefits etc

I ordered Cooper Petrol green with hi-spec. on 04 April 2014.

04 April delivery est. 15 May.
10 April delivery est. now early June.
23 April end June
20 May still end June
28 May still end June
15 June now 'sometime' in August !

What's going on ? All the fun and excitement of my imminent new car is evaporating. Booked to holiday in France during August....doesn't look like I'll have my new pride and joy.

Looks like BMW are second rate....their customer care is terrible.

With the variable damper control you can feel the difference between green/mid-modes and sport mode, but by how much entirely depends on the quality of road.

On a smooth road, the car rides well even in sport mode. On a poor quality road with potholes and/or undulating surfaces I find sport mode uncomfortable for anything more than a couple of minutes. But the handling is sharper in sport mode.

I drive the car in green mode most of the time and then when I see a roundabout or some fun twisties I switch to sport mode.

I've got the MCS which is has a slightly stiffer set up than the MC in both non- and VDC variants. That means a VDC equipped MCS in sport will be slightly stiffer than a similar MC, but a VDC MC in green/mid mode will ride better than a similar MCS. :)

Cheers Lawro, I'm glad that I have now made a few calls and added VDC and they have confirmed that as we stand it's still booked in for week 26 for build! (It was a week ago I made the calls)

To be fair my brother has just ordered an Audi A4 and has been told 18-20 week wait! :nerd:
