Resetting indicator alerts for Routine Service Check, Oil Change, and Brakes is super easy for the F56 and F56S.

1) Car should be OFF.
2) With the foot OFF of the brake, press the START button once to power up the car but not start the engine.
3) Locate the Trip Odometer Reset button on the speedo, at about the 5 o'clock position.
4) Press and HOLD the Trip Odometer Reset button.
- You will see a message: "! Ignition turned on!" Keep holding the button.
- You will see the "car raised on lift" symbol, and it may or may not say, "RESET Possible". Release the button.
5) You are now in alert reset mode. You can toggle between the three reset options: service, oil, and brakes by giving one quick press to the Trip Odometer Reset button. Stop on the one you wish to reset. If a reset is permitted for the particular option, it will say "RESET Possible".
6) To reset the alert, press and HOLD the Trip Odometer Reset button until you see the message, "Reset?" and then release the button.
7) Press and HOLD the Trip Odometer button again. A message will say, "System Resetting" and a progress bar will display. A message will now say, "System Reset". Release the button.
8) To get out of the alert reset menu, just wait several seconds or turn the car back off by again pressing START without the brake applied.

All done!

General notes: A "Press and Hold" of the Trip Odometer Reset button selects an option. Pressing it quickly toggles between options. Apparently, if you reset one of the alerts, you can't reset it again right away, only when the "Reset Possible" message displays. I do not know how many miles from the last reset it again becomes possible, sorry!!

Thanks ! Great work.

What about turning back the calendar as well ?
Servicing intervals are running off a complex formula which is a
combo of many factors, i.e. miles/km driven, time(onboard calendar) , and sensors,

Not sure what you mean by turning back the calendar - I think you can adjust that in the onboard controls, no?

Did you ever get an answer to this question? My first oil change was due 1 year after I picked up my new JCW in 2015....so oil change was due in June 2016. Because I don't drive it daily it only had about 600 miles on it so I was in no hurry to change the oil after a year. I don't do the free oil service thing preferring to do it myself.

So, in April 2017 doing my research as to procedure I changed the oil & filter at around 800 miles. When I reset the oil service indicator it showed next service as April 2018 (1 year from month I changed oil & performed the reset).

But now it is showing service required June 2017! Is it programmed into the computer to always pop up for service annually from the time the car is first picked up? If so, this is simply a way for the dealer to get the car into the shop at least once a year regardless of mileage!....grrrr!

There ought to be a way for the owner/mechanic to set service intervals to anything they want.

So, how about it?....anyone know the answer to setting the calendar as desired?

I have an F56 2016 and from what I understand the service record is kept on the car's computer system. Does anyone know whether resetting the service light adds anything into the service record?

I've just called the dealer and they can't get me in until 22nd January (best part of a month) and for oil, filter and half hour's labour it's £190.

If the service record can be kept up to date, I'll either do it myself or put it into the VW dealer nearby.

In a perfect world it would make sense, however it would add a layer of complexity to the service interval to let you modify the intervals. Maybe Mini is telling you in a nice way to please enjoy your JCW

Well Peter, I’m old school and prefer to change my own oil & filter. I’m not fond of all the proprietary computerization on new cars....they are there for one reason....cut out the owner from caring for their own car! I hope you are enjoying your Solaris JCW! ?

I am also, however we cannot stop progress. It's sometimes difficult to embrace the pace of technology, we have to be on a constant learning curve. When I first started fiddling with cars and motorcycles it was a few wing nuts, bolts and screws and we were under way again;)

Loving the JCW, changed out the rear sway bar end links and bolted in the big pair. Winter wheels and tires are on in case I'm caught out .

Hi BMW programs the service acording to the engineering data and components especifications, some services mostly fluids have a due date a sort of expiration date due to oxidation and loose of their properties, that said, you can change your oil today and not move your car a mile for more than one year that doesnt mean the oil is still protecting the engine.

Thanks for the tips to everyone, however still facing issues.

I can get into the menu, reset brakes and oil lights as I've serviced both. Problem is, upon startup, still states in red 'service due 03/20' which was a most a year ago? Is there another menu?

Thanks!

if i have read you correctly you have reset the service indicators in the menu on the speedo, if thats the case, you also need to enter the service data in the main head unit, cant remember if its in vehicle information or settings, but it should be easily found, you can change the dates in there, the only time ive been locked out of changing those dates is when i had my brakes done, but stupidly didnt replace the brake wear indicator, and it somehow had set off after the new brakes where fitted, which was annnoying, but once replaced i was able to then reset the time on the brake service

Thanks Madmax, I hadn't realised that was user-set in the main console menu. All fixed up now!! Thank you

the wifes mini was serviced at Sytner Mini Tamworth, for some reason they didn't add this to the onboard sytem, we have the invoice detailing all the work done last May 2020 i think it was, using this would i be able to enter and update the service history on the car?

pretty sure you can change the dates etc, and acknowledge the service has been done, but you won’t be able to add any details about the service I’m sure, if that’s a possibility it’s dealer only but purely guessing from when I last had to do it ,

Done what you said, but when I go to reset rear brake pads, the progress bar goes up then says reset unsuccessful.. Why?
