Apologies if this has been done to death, I’ve just arrived on the forum. I’m ordering a L3 in BRG, black roof, roulette wheels and with the Chester Grey leather this week but would like yellow mirror caps.

What are people’s thoughts on yellow caps with BRG and should my dealer be able to retro fit them prior to delivery?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks - It is honest opinions I’m after

I’ve always found the old Lotus use of BRG with yellow quite pleasing. But that was a darker green. However the fact it isn’t offered by mini should probably be telling me something!

Don't let me rein in your artistic licence to do the car how you want.
The mirror caps aren't super expensive and easy to change. When we got our moonwalk grey (black roof) my wife wanted the yellow ones, but I wasn't keen so the salesman threw in a pair of black caps as well.
The yellow stayed on for a week then she asked me to change them.
Finally after 20 years I was right about something 🤣

Great advice, I’ll keep the black ones if I do it! 👍

Let us know if they allow you to order the yellow mirror caps with BRG; in North America in that combination is not available, and the yellow caps are not available separately.

I will do. You definitely cannot order it as a factory fit in the UK and the dealer is coming back to me about the retro fit. Surely they must sell replacement yellow caps for those folk who have ordered the colour combinations that do allow yellow mirrors!

Hi,
If you open the link below and scroll down to the "MAKE IT YOURS" section you can see how BRG with roulette wheels and yellow caps looks:
THE ALL-ELECTRIC MINI | MINI CY
To my eyes it looks completely stock/factory, the yellow on the front & back badge and wheel caps complements nicely the yellow on the mirror caps.
The only reason why I went black mirror caps on my BRG is because I am old and prefer not to draw attention on the road.
In addition, yellow mirror caps (in my mind) also advertise the fact that this is an EV and I prefer the look of a "standard" ICE car (drivers do not expect the quick acceleration of the EV combined with zero engine noise which I also prefer).
If I was younger I would definitely go for yellow, I believe it lifts the whole car from boring looking to exciting (akin to silver mirrors on past Audi RS models), plus I hate the fact that black always looks dirty and scratched.
It is good to ask for opinions but in the end you should get what you want, this is not an irreversible mistake, it is just 2 not very expensive mirror caps which MINI sells different ones anyway if you want to change them (mirror jack style/etc.)

Thank-you, that was a really helpful link. Great to see it mocked up with the yellow mirrors. Apologies to the good taste police but I loved the look. I’ll just keep the black caps for a future change of appearance. Really appreciated everyone’s advice today - a good advert for the forum 👍

Mini doesn't sell yellow replacement caps but you can buy primer caps and then have them painted. In 2021 at least, the mirror caps are painted from the Mini and not yellow ABS plastic.

I traded my yellow mirror caps with another owner to get black ones which I greatly prefer. The black ones are plastic and don't appear to be painted.

Also, my 2021 mirror caps came with a puddle light on the driver's side (LHD) while the ones I traded for did not. I had to drill a hole in the mirror cap to allow the puddle light to work. I'm sure your RHD cars will have the puddle light on the other side and may or may not have a hole.

As I discovered after I picked mine up with the dealer-installed Night Jack caps (and the original black caps tucked away in the boot), the accessory caps don’t come pre-drilled for the logo projector.

I like the look of the green/yellow. Assuming the mirrors attach like on my 2016 F57, you just twist them and they come off (put a towel or blanket on the floor below you, as it's easy to drop them).

The Union Jack caps I bought had an indentation for drilling out the hole for the projector. the hole is an oval shape, so I drilled a starter hole in the middle, and then used a large blade cutter and then a craft blade to carve out the rest of the shape. The plastic is quite soft, so it took less than five minutes. I then used very fine-grit sandpaper to soften the edges. It fit perfectly. The caps then just snap back on.

Exactly this! My Night Jack caps were installed at the dealership before I took delivery, and they neglected to drill out the hole for the projector. So my first weekend with the car I was wondering where the projection was. When I folded the mirrors I realized there was nothing there, and decided to pop them off to take care of it myself. I put masking tape around the edge of the caps, and used a plastic spudging tool to help release the clips, and of course the first mirror cap sprang to life with a mind of its own and wound up on the concrete floor of my garage, butter-side down. 🤦🏻‍♂️ When I went to do the other side, I added a loose loop of tape between the mirror glass and the top of the cap, as a tether in case it happened again. Oy vey.
