Rev-match function

I drove a non-S F56 with manual transmission the other day and was positively shocked at how seamless the rev-matching function was upon downshifts. Each downshift was achieved perfectly. This was the first time I had driven a vehicle with automatic rev-matching.

To disable it, apparently you have to fully disable the stability control.

I'm not sure if I liked losing that control to the superior algorithms. :|

What do you all think of the rev-match?

My mistake. I just took a ride and it works unless you only push the clutch about half way in. If its about half way in then it doesn't engage.
Jeremybingham, you are correct as well. Once the clutch is in, you then select the gear and the rev-match engages. Key here is that you have to push the clutch in first, (at least half way in).

Anyone know if this is standard on a manual petrol One?

Think I answered my own question tonight, paid particular attention when down shifting and revs definitely did NOT rise (blip) between gears. So the answer is no.
I think it also depends on whether stability/traction control is on or off... so that can be a factor too.
Yes you're right if traction control is off you lose the rev match.
Just wondering does the auto with paddle shift auto rev match? When using the paddle shift?

Mine is Petrol (Cooper (not S)) and it does rev-matching.

I'm used to engine breaking, so I was rather irritated at first.
Would be nice if it could be disabled without disabling Stability.

Yup.
You still get engine braking walter de vos but i agree it is a bit of a shock at first as the revs match and therefore your engine braking doesnt kick in till a little later than you'd expect on a normal, no rev match gear shift! you soon get used to it imo!

I'm an idiot, I know that so what is this rev match that you speak of please? In English too if you can :0)
When you change down a gear, the car's computer, when you engage the clutch and move the gear lever to the "gate" of the lower gear, raises the engine speed to MATCH the road speed in the lower gear.

That english enough?

In the olden days, we used to use the heel or side of our right foot to "blip" the accelerator while the toes of our right foot remains on the brake pedal. This technique is known as "heel-toe". In a manual F56 MINI Cooper, Cooper S or JCW with the traction control disabled and sport mode on, the computer disables this function enabling old gits like me to hark back to the olden days.
Ah, heel and toe. Got it.

Not all of us are preficiant in techno language so English (simple English) is our only way of knowing what's going on in the world. Thank you for putting me right back on track.
Don't like the rev match function much.

I am used to-as you say-"blipping the throttle" to get a smooth down change.

With the rev match function, it just feels beyond the drivers control and yes the engine breaking takes a while to kick in.

Much rather have the car without this as it would fell much more sporty.

Having said all that, it does not detract from a good driving experience (it's just the fact I like changing down the gears the old way!).
Blimey not sporty.most Porsches etc have this now. Love it myself and feels sportier to me. Good job were all different!
This old git still gets to blip the throttle in the Moggie mainly to hear the lovely exhaust 'parp'. Who needs a BT exhaust .......oh I do!!!!!

Ye - that was my first car too...so I thought I would relive my youth 40 years later.
I upgraded tho from a 1098+ Sprite motor to a 1275+ Midget to keep up with the new Minis:laugh:
Hello,

I am a bit irritated about the Rev match feature as well.

To the point that I think it may not be working properly on my car.

Situation:

Approaching an intersection or roundabout in tall gear.

I start by letting off the throttle and pushing the brake pedal.

I downshift from 4th to 3rd and release the clutch. I feel a little the typical downshift jerk a few seconds (1 or 2 tops) after I have released the clutch.

I continue brake braking and downshift from 3rd to 2nd and release the clutch again. I feel a normal downshift jerk but 1 or 2 seconds after the clutch is fully released.

All this is gone and the downshifts are as in all cars when the Rev match feature is disabled.

Is this the normal behavior? It annoys me a lot!!

Thanks.

Probably needs a software adjustment, rev matching stopped working in my F56 after a service and they had to adjust the software to get it back again.
I don't like it exactly because of this reason.
Me too. Annoys me greatly (I've engine braked from day one of my licence over 20 years ago).
