Run in period

I'm planning on doing the odd weekend oil change myself on the JCW as I used to with all my previous cars, I'm planning on giving it an oil change after the first few thousand kms as this period is when the engine sheds the most metal, I'd like to do the same with the auto transmission but sure this would be a lot more difficult, not sure how these are made or put together. Or if you can even change the auto trans oil.

Maybe all demo cars are doomed to have issues later on in life? When I took one out the sales actually told me to 'take it for a thrash', it had 80km on the clock....
