I have a question regarding seat memory position from when someone gets in the back and you fold the seat back.

My MINI Cooper with sport seats built November 2014 has the function on the passenger seat, but not the driver seat. Could other people with sport seats see if your driver seat has this function or not?

I've mentioned it to the sales guy we dealt with, but he thinks the new MINI doesn't have a memory position for safety reasons. He tried it on a showroom car and they don't for either seat, so bit strange how the passenger seat on my car does.

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

when you allow someone the honour of getting in the back of the F56, it's important to slide the whole seat back until it stops, then to tilt the back until it locks. If you tilt the back first it loses the place, and you then have to fiddle.

This should happen on both driver and passenger seat, if it's not working on the drivers seat tilt it forward, and slide it forward, then get on your knees and have a look for a small bit of metal on the runner (IIRC it's spring loaded). This should move with the seat, but on mine it didn't so I had a similar issue. Slide it along with your hand, then put the seat back, slide it back and forth and with luck it should locate itself.

Hope that makes sense, I'm hank marvin and rushing off to get some food.

Thanks for the reply.

Yep i'm sliding the seat back before tilting it back, but it ends up going all the way to the end of the runner. I've had three previous MINI's before this with no problems so wanted to make sure the 3rd generation does have this feature.

I'll take a look under the seat tonight and do what you suggested. Hopefully that will do the trick and I don't have to drop it by the dealer to look at.

Actually, just checked the owners manual and it does list the driver seat as having a memory feature. Will have to let the sales guy know that the MINI does still have the feature and he needs to get his showroom car looked at lol.

Love It!

The new F56's here in the states have the memory feature also. On both seats.

What I've noticed is that even the seemingly slightest movement of the seat back, before the seat base has reached its original position, will cause the seat to go all the way back. I've taken to returning the seat to its original position by pushing on the base. Once it stops, I then reach up and flip the seat back into position.

Your's may well need repair, but I thought I'd mention the little nuance.

I have just checked mine (Mini Cooper, sports seats built in May 2014) and the memory function only works on the passenger seat (UK) on mine also.

There is a wee metal shuttle/pawl or something running backwards and forwards on the drivers seat runner but it doesn't seem to do anything.

It says in the manual that it is the drivers seat that has the memory, but could this be another typo due to translation?

I would only use the passenger side for putting people in the back anyway, so I can live with it!

They are definitely both supposed to remember where to go back to!
I agree, but the UK manual doesn't!

Page 47 says the drivers seat has a mechanical memory system for remembering the seats position and adjustment, and by implication I presume that means the other seat does not have it .

I certainly only have it on one seat (the passenger's).

We need more people to check before a visit to MrM is required!

Managed to fix my driver seat so now both seats do remember last position they where in.
You just need to move the seat all the way forward and let it lock into position there. Then both it all the way back and let it lock into position again. Repeat this a few times before setting the seat in the position you want. Now try getting in the back and see if it is fixed. This worked right away for me so hopefully will fix anyone else's. This is also the same fix to the same problem some people had on the first and 2nd Gen MINI.

Excellent information! It worked for me anyway, thanks for that.

Once again the handbook is shown to be a little bit inaccurate.

I followed your instructions but it doesn't work :( but I found the problem :D
On the runner I noticed a little plastic piece that has, on the upper part, some kind of "button", that does "click" when you press. I pressed it few times and then I moved it back and forward on the runner, then, I lift up the back rest and the memory now works :D I'm very very happy!

An old thread I know but does anyone know what stops the seat sliding further forward? Yes, I know it will be a lump of steel but where ;-)
Access to the rear seats is not the best and there is easily an extra inch to be had ooh er!

I tried my memory seat feature multiple time - and I can confirm it does not work on either side. So this is a fault on my car. Not too keen to get this looked into ironically, as they may want to remove both seat weighing up the pros, cons
