Hi there,

Had my Mini new for 3 months & loving it.
Love the way i can receive sms text messages and even have them read out to me all using bluetooth on my iphone 5s
The only thing that bothered me was that i wasnt able to compose a new sms text then send it through the voice control.......
Ive just found out that if i press the home button on my phone and use siri i can compose a text and send it, all the sound comes through the car speakers just like the voice control.
I only wish i could open Siri on my phone without having to press the home button on the phone, would of been great to be able to open Siri through voice control.

I can open Siri on my phone by pressing the button on the steering wheel? Does that not work for you?
I guess all that will happen when the whole Apple Carplay thing kicks off

:D
Is it Siri your opening when you press the button or Mini's own voice prompts.
If it is Siri your opening how ?
Okay since i have no car I'll stay out of it.

*Feels like a sandwich without the filling*

Aww poor GoKart :-( But you do it to yourself!! Maybe you should stay away from the forum to save your distress levels? *gasp*!!

And Crobson - yes it's Siri that opens. I
Didn't do anything to set that up - it just happened! I do put my phone in an armrest cradle though...maybe that makes a difference?

I still cant see how it opens Siri, I have the cradle aswell. the button on the steering wheel just opens the 'Mini voice command' ?????

I am the same as this. If you have Siri activated (by holding the button on the iphone), then you can see it on the cars main central display. I can't remember the exact words, but it's to the effect of 'external voice command'.

I'm not sure that having the button separate from the phone makes it any more convenient to use Siri. Why not just have the phone in the cup holder and press the button on the actual phone? Seems like a waste of money to me.
Apple Car Play

It will be interesting if Mini will upgrade existing owners 2014 Mini's

I've got my phone connected only via Bluetooth and I found I can activate Siri just by holding the steering wheel voice button same as you would the home button on the phone. If you simply press the button it will activate Mini's voice features but holding it down seemed to make the difference.

I used it last night to send a text and the car reads the text back in full before asking if I want to send it. Very nice feature.

That is good news - I will try that later, thanks.
Which phone do you have because I cannot send txt's with my iphone5.

I've got an iPhone 5S but it should absolutely work with a 5
Ah yes. It works with Siri (of course), but not via Mini voice command. I can receive and get them read out to me via Mini Connected, but can't send.
Cheers,
Texy
You dont even need mini connected !!!!!
I hope they support android auto!

I'd be surprised if the go with Apples Carplay or Androids Auto as that would mean allowing the console to use their maps/navigation...thats a cash cow lost for them if they allow these into the car.

Apple reckons BMW is on board, but to what extent I'm unsure.

Glad to hear Siri is working though as have an iPhone and basic commands ('call blah blah') are very useful when driving.
Would be great if they just forgot about the maps thing and then put either android auto or carplay in! The thing that's frustrating with Apple is they're just for apple devices. Android is the biggest phone os in the world, making you think they'd want to target that, or give an option for both!

It's nice that BMW have finally given android users the chance to use mini connected! Just a shame the apps seem to be more limited than iOS ones!

It will be interesting if they give current mini users the chance to upgrade to either when it is released! Would have loved a sat nab on my visual boost radio but not with the cost!
