Hi there,

Had my Mini new for 3 months & loving it.
Love the way i can receive sms text messages and even have them read out to me all using bluetooth on my iphone 5s
The only thing that bothered me was that i wasnt able to compose a new sms text then send it through the voice control.......
Ive just found out that if i press the home button on my phone and use siri i can compose a text and send it, all the sound comes through the car speakers just like the voice control.
I only wish i could open Siri on my phone without having to press the home button on the phone, would of been great to be able to open Siri through voice control.

Would have loved a sat nab on my visual boost radio but not with the cost!
Same but that price, was frankly, ridiculous. And that's for the basic nav.

Yes mat, absolute rip off! Especially how cheap you can buy sat navs!

What I don't understand people are happy to pay these prices and just through their hard earned money away.

The great thing about Apple is their system is locked down and so easy to use. My iPhone and iPad does everything I need in my car. I've installed Tomtom app on both so no data required and updates are free. Even if I use 4g data it's now so very cheap. I even wish my BMW screen would fold away as I never use it much.

One can only assume that these poor misguided people have different requirements to you - perhaps they have the HUD and want their satnav directions displayed through that, or that they wear spectacles and can't easily focus on a small smartphone screen compared to the large mini display. I expect there are a multitude of reasons other than people being profligate.

I don't think he was slating your decision, we both agree that it seems ridiculous the price they charge for the sat nav!
I could have stretched the budget to get a model with the central screen, nav and the whole connected thing, but I didn't. I was in a hurry to replace a car and could only choose what was available in stock, which meant that only certain features and colour combos were available in the few remaining 2014s. Since I didn't have it on my previous MINI, I really don't miss it.

I have the base infotainment system and use an iPhone 5 with a dashboard mount. While voice commands are not possible from the steering wheel buttons, Siri is just a short touch away. I can use the maps to navigate if I need to.

I really like tech stuff but I did find the whole HUD / Nav screen thing a bit distracting, but that's just me. I'm sure others experiences are different. I must also echo the sentiment that this technology while being well integrated into the car is very over priced. But so are lots of things that people enjoy. It wasn't a compelling feature for me and the phone works quite well. Have a look at my album to see a picture of my setup.
