I've watched a few video reviews (actually, 100's) of the new MINI and in the American ones, there is a start up bong of sorts. Skip to 4:58 of this video to hear what I mean (although you can hear it in the background from the beginning):

Do the UK ones make this noise out of interest?

Cos, I think that's just warning you to put your seatbelt on. It also warns you when you're driving without it. Is that the sound you're referring to?

Hi, no I don't think so as goes away.

The car (in USA videos) has a start up bong. Like an Apple computer. If you get a chance, check out that video-you can hear it at the point I said (4 mins?).

I'm curious more then anything else.

I was driven almost insane by the bonging noises in most of the review videos I watched, but in normal use my car never bongs.

I've test driven two F56 MCS also. There was no repeating bongs.

Maybe some countries have a seatbelt warning noise like JCinSyd said?

I would probably switch it off after awhile, drive me crazy.

Hmmm, is it legal not to have your seatbelt on in the UK. That's all I can attribute it to. My Coupe does the noise too.

It is illegal, but on the older Mini in the UK the noise only happens when you drive (and doesn't sound like this).

I have posted elsewhere about this as mine does it when restarting, I looked again today and at the same time a warning signing comes up on the speedo dial which says manual handbrake release or words to that effect. It doesn't do it all the time though!

Yes there are 2 bongs when you open the hood
