So I was wondering if anyone else was having this issue. I HAVE a HUD, and when I use steering wheel controls to change the radio station or go to next song using spotify through my phone, it works perfectly and shows up with either the list of stations or my current song play on the HUD. However, when I put the HUD down and try using the steering wheel controls, I press the up or down button like normal to go to next station or next song, and the screen below the speedometer flashes with "Not Possible", if I press the the up or down and then click okay (ignoring the "Not Possible" message) it actually DOES go to the next station or song, but I'm wondering why it says "Not Possible". According to my dealer, this is normal behavior that may be corrected later on with a software update.

Just thought I'd post my experience and see if anyone is having the same issue, and what their dealer is saying about it.

What if you get in the car and not use the HUD at all? I ask because you said you put the HUD down, implying that you initially had it up.
Texy
The HUD automatically pops up when the car starts.
But I could try putting the HUD down BEFORE using the radio and spotify controls, I don't think that would provide any different results but I will try and see what happens.

I just can't believe the dealer says this is normal, I can believe that it's just a glitch I have to live with for now, but no way it's normal.

Ah - I didn't realise it automatically pops up when you start - I thought you had to toggle the switch?
Texy
Nope, it automatically pops up. There is a toggle switch to put it down, or pop it back up.

However, if the dealer was right it sounds like IF you get the HUD the whole car is electronically designed for you to ALWAYS use the HUD and if you don't you actually lose some stuff. Seems to me like if the HUD is down it should just act like it doesn't have a HUD and show the same options on the Speedometer screen.

What you say sounds reasonable to me... it's not like the speedo stops showing speed just because you can see speed on the HUD.

I wonder how it works with the driving assistant speed limit recognition... do you still see a speed limit on the speedo when the HUD is down?

Th speed limit does show in the speedo if the HUD is down. I have the MINI tomorrow so I will test ours to see what happens with the HUD down and the radio/media selections.

Apparently (I just learned this) if you put the HUD down, the car will remember this setting if it's still down when the car is shut down and will not bring it up the next time the car is turned on.

minij that is what I was thinking - see if you can start the car without the HUD activating and then see what happens. I would have thought the car remembers the last setting, but to be honest I always use the HUD. :)

Yeah, same here I always have the HUD up but that is interesting that it works properly for you. Could you elaborate on what you're doing? Does it always work? Or just when the car is started with the HUD down? I think I will post some pictures of how mine looks and what it does. Makes me a little frustrated that my dealer is brushing it off when clearly this is an issue with my MINI.

Also, could you possibly post a picture or tell me the OS version your MINI is running? Maybe I have an old version.

I retracted the HUD whilst driving and then used the steering wheel controls to access the phone, radio and media all displayed in the speedo screen.

Will check the OS version, but mine could be older as the car is a coupe of months old now and was built in mid March

Thank you for this info, I will snap a picture of my OS version too.

After a bit of experimenting. If the HUD is down the radio, media and phone info appear on the screen at the bottom of the speedo.

After some playing around, I found the only thing not working is bluetooth music. So when I put the HUD down and it is playing music through bluetooth on my phone (like spotify, pandora, etc.) is when it doesn't work on the speedo screen. Pressing the steering control buttons actually perform the action, and so does the arrows underneath the NAV screen. but it won't show up on the speedo screen, it just says "not possible" (when obviously it is possible, because it performs the action)

I know it works streaming bluetooth from an iPhone 5S, but that is from the music on the phone rather than spotify etc...

I don't know about music straight on the phone, because I don't have any. But the phone seems to be compatible because the controls underneath the NAV screen work just fine, and the steering wheel controls work just fine when the HUD is up.
