Advice please. Has anyone got the panoramic sunroof and what do you think about it? Am I right in thinking only the front part opens? Does it tilt as well as slide?

Also, is it worth getting the anthracite headlining if you have the sunroof as I presume there isn't much of the roof left? ;)

I got the sunroof option on my F55, Makes the car feel much brighter inside, also the standard grey roof lining has the same effect, otherwise I felt it felt a bit claustrophobic.
Tilt and slide, only front opens.

As above re opening but in my opinion it's worth every penny. It completely transforms the interior having the additional natural light in there. Just don't be expecting masses of air rushing into the car when it's open- the air baffle is so well designed you barely get any wind in the cabin. It is a luxury but it's a great one.

Re anthracite headlining, I have both the anthracite and the sunroof and for me it's the perfect mix- dark enough to look sporty and high class but with the natural light to stop it being too dark.

If I was re-speccing they're two of the first options I'd tick.

What krc says is true.

As far as the sunroof goes, it is something that will add to the resale value of the car, most people (not all) find it appealing. Even in cold Canada, I like the extra light it brings in. In the summer it helps to quickly cool a closed up car. It increases what you can see because otherwise you'd have to stick your head out of the window (not recommended while driving LOL).

Enjoy the breeze, get a sunroof.

I would echo everyone s comments above, it really brings light inside the car. I also have the anthracite headlining, I believe it came with the JCW pack. I dont think it makes so much difference as the area is quite small. Its a shame that the Panoramic roof doesn't all open like ones on other cars but hey ho I only sit in the front.
It would be one of the first options for me if I was re ordering.

Another sunroof and anthracite owner here. Ill just add that anthracite is also a different material than std. Instead of the plush on the grey its a smoother more hard finish which i think looks and feels higher quality. For me also i find the std grey didnt match to anything else i was speccing in the cabin

Unlike most here, I prefer a car that is darker on the inside. Unfortunately, I bought one off the lot and it happened to have a sunroof. It was an acceptable loss for the price I paid, but had I ordered a car I would have left off the sunroof. The sunroof also adds weight up high and steals a little headroom from the roof.

It's not terrible and I will use it (because I paid for it, so why not?), but I prefer not having one.

As a guy in his sixties, I had never had a sunroof and long wanted one so knew whatever my next car was, it was gonna have one. In the States, it comes in the Premium Package which includes the HK system, so for me it was perfect bundle and I got a few goodies I probably wouldn't have bothered with elsewise.

Like others, I like the open air, lots of light feeling it gives. I think it also opens up the feel of the small cabin. I also like the sliding screen which blocks the sun when it's at an annoying angle.

So far I'm loving it although I could only up it up a few times before freezing weather moved in. For me, I think it's one of the options that is actually worth its cost.

I was sure I didn't want a sunroof.

Had one many years ago and didn't get used much, and this is in sunny California!

On hot days, it lets in heat and you end up using air conditioning anyway.

Someone suggested that it would be nice to be able to see the starry night. But you can't be looking up at the sky while driving!!!

On my R56 the sunroof was nice for keeping the cabin ventilated in the Arizona sun. But the mesh sunscreen was not very useful, to the point where I ended up buying replacement (opaque) sunscreens on Amazon.com. I didn't really open the sunroof very often (I prefer a quiet interior).

I did not order it on my F56. I doubt I'll miss it.

I have the sunroof and anthracite liner as well... I have to say it gives it brightness when needed.. you can put the shade on if you want it darker... my rear passengers found it cool that they had their own moon roof and pulled the shade open :)

Poor you what a decision.you need to sit down like I did and prioritise the options making sure you have your top ones.decide which are the luxuries you can do without if you have to economizes.if you can sit or drive in versions of both. Don't not have it and rgret it later. I want going to have the hk hifi but did this and thought do you know what delete the supa guard and gap insurance and I can afford it. Choose in haste etc ...

Even if I never open the sunroof, it's worth it for me. My wife's 2002 MCS has one. I've gotten attached to it over the years. It's even nicer on the f56! It brings the car alive at night--even with the screen closed.

Speaking of the car's ceiling, and not to go too far off topic, but what happened to the cabin dome light? I use them all the time in other vehicles to grab stuff off the back seat, etc.

I guess I am the only one who doesn't like the sunroof option. In Canada, all Minis are ordered by dealers with the sunroof. I don't like how it makes the car look. I don't like the loss of headspace. I don't like that they always leak after a few years. I don't like the additional weight it adds. I paid an additional $400 to delete the sunroof from my car and I am assured by the dealer that I am the only person in Canada to do so.

PS there's no sun up there to be seen from Vancouver anyway

I am another anthracite and sunroof owner, and a huge fan. Given that you are in the UK, F55maybe, it's a must: perfect for letting in extra light on those long grey winter days.
As Hat said, the anthracite has a different feel/finish to the standard lining, and bear in mind it is on the pillars as well as the roof, so yes you lose some of this because of the glass roof, but it gives it a nicely finished feel in the cabin, nonetheless.
If you are spec-ing a black roof, the glass roof looks great. Also, as it is glass, and not paint, there is less surface to get swirly, over time, and less to polish, too!
I had a 2004 MC with a glass roof, which my mother in law still has: the roof has never leaked in 10 years.
I do wish that both sections opened, as they did on the R56, but I don't spend any time in the back.

Totally not on your own sting Ray. I am in total agreement with you. Plus they're noisy unduly drafty. I just can't see the point. Mind you we are lucky as we have a mini roadsters too. .we in the UK pay extra , I would never have one having had them in previous cars.
