Toggle switch missing?

11491 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  GoKart7
I have had my MC for nearly a week but today is the first time I have noticed the left hand toggle switch is missing from the bank of switches.

I thought I had specced the car to ensure there would be a full complement of switches, just for aesthetic reasons if nothing else.

I have investigated and deduced that the missing switch should control the "park distance control" which the configurator says is actuated by reverse gear OR the dashboard toggle switch.

I suspect they have saved money by making the system only switch on by reverse gear, which is fair enough, but it still says in the config. screen that it is also controlled by the switch too.
If the switch is not going to be fitted it should not appear on the config. "dashboard view" screen.

I have the rearview camera and the car makes odd electronic noises when reversing so I presume the park distance control is fitted. I think I will pretend to back into a wall and check it!

Has anyone else with PDC specced got a missing switch?

Another dealer visit looms!

The switch does appear when you specify the Parking Assistant Pack.

Park distance control is rear sensors, which beep as you get closer to an object behind......a look at the rear bumper will tell you if you have them. They're a row of what look like little round holes on the bumper. (Sorry for poor description)

Parking assistant is the system which does the steering when reversing into a parking space (parallel parking) and comes with front sensors also
Update: The PDC is working OK-I pretended to reverse into a wheelie bin and it went frantic-so it is just the switch that is missing.

Although it is really redundant, it would be nice to have what I expected.

Andy, when I went through the configurator I only specified the PDC and the switch appeared on the dashboard view.
I have never specced the parking assistance pack, but the switch has been visible after adding the PDC.
Thanks for your input, it makes sense to have the switch only with the assistance pack, I will check again!

When I went onto Mini UK and selected Dashboard view and added park assist and HUD, both end switches appeared in the photo. Haven't tried it with just PDC though......
I'm in the same boat. I knew the configurator was incorrect and even asked MINI UK, who replied with the incorrect information.

The USA configurator shows the correct dash.
Interesting.......I just did the configurator and added PDC rear and the switch appeared......I don't believe it should have.....
I know this one!

The rear sensors (PDC) are a pre-requisite for the camera, so you have those fitted. They provide the top down "radar" view on the screen as you are reversing.

As for the switch, you are correct that the documentation says that the switch is used to manually turn the system off and on, whether you have rear PDC, rear camera or the full parking assistant. This is documented in the online PDF manual, the android app manual and now it seems the in car manual too. It is also shown in the UK online configurator... when you add any of the three features the switch appears.

But, it looks like you only actually get the switch if you have the full parking assistant. The other two features engage automatically with reverse gear and I suppose the switch is not deemed necessary.

I asked my dealer and he confirmed by looking at his demonstrator cars. It's disappointing because you tthink you're getting it and then you don't. On the other hand, I don't think I want to spend an extra £330 for a feature that I'll never use and switch I'll never switch. I imagine the other switches will be rarely used too.

I bet I can fill that spece in a creative way that makes it "my mini" and I'll spend much less than £330 :)

Try not to be disappointed...

Thanks to all for your help and information.

So the moral is if you are looking to populate your switch bank with a full complement of switches don't just specify the PDC cos it won't do it on its own, you need the parking assistance pack.

I can live with it!!
Thanks MintMark. That's exactly as I suspected.

I wasn't going to spring for the full parking assistant pack (and upgrade to 16" wheels) just for a switch. However, I guess it's possible to buy the full bank of switches as a spare part. I know some did this in days gone by on the R50.

I think I'll just live with it!

I've ordered the whole lot :)

I couldn't help it with the whole Audi thing for 18 months and the best thing I got the discount I wanted plus the 300 credit from BMW yesterday which I'll try to pay for the tlc pack thereby changing the contract if I can - if not winter wheels all the way ;)

Very happy - close to 10% altogether and no finance in sight :D

I'm the man, no you're the man no I'm the man, no really you're the.. Oh!

Hey G7, I must have missed this. What's with the BMW credits?
Cameron

Diesel owners got a £300 dealer credit towards their mini for having to wait

Texy let me in that I should have a try he did as having a Petrol will cost me 5 months of waiting for the car - in my case as you know having to order it again from somewhere else because Heathrow dealer principle wasn't prepared to offer same deal again...

BMW got in contact with me after my wife put in a complaint on facebook because mini customer service said that they couldn't do nothing

So from nothing to a 300 pound credit isn't bad at all - job done
