Trouble with digital speedometer

Hi everyone

I just got my 2015 Mini today - base model with the essentials package. I love it, however having played around with it a bit I have a question about the speedometer. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to display the digital kph reading on the instrument cluster - is there even one?! I can't imagine this kind of car would NOT have this option! Have tried pressing the little button on the end of the left stick but it only provides me one option for the engine...other than that I can't change the display at all. Not the time, not the temp, not anything! Anybody know what I'm doing wrong??

im so glad i read this i have been so used to a digital speedo i got a bit confused when i had to go back to a standard one.
That sucks! Why do we Canadians miss out :(
I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but I actually realised my left indicator stalk says "BC" on it, for ON BOARD COMPUTER! Could it be that there's somthing wrong with it and that's why it's not working, or is it just there to tease me?

Probably just there to tease you. MINI tends to use the same parts on their cars regardless of equipped features. Like the voice command button on MINIs without Visual Boost.
Hi everyone,

I can confirm also for my case, that the OBC functionality is a country-specific feature, standard equipment for some countries (like the UK) and options for other (like Canada and Greece apparently). I will definetely ask my Mini service to try to install it possibly through a re-programming, but if any of you has a feedback and experience on this, that would be really great.

Thank you.
In Italy the BC (trip computer) in 56 F / F55 is included. In previous models, and it was possible to have it turn into post-sales paid by the dealer.

Surely you can (with goodwill) have it activate via MINI/BMW software but it takes the dealer will to do so ! And maybe that's the problem... !

Good luck

Ah...gotcha.

The Canadian Coopers do NOT have On Board Computer as a standard feature. (which is ridiculous....it one little software flag...) :(

I doubt the dealer can retroactively add it, but wouldn't hurt to ask.
Not really, it's generally more complicated than that.

For example, another manufacturer might have the patient on this type of software in your market and MINI would have to pay a license fee if enabled.

I was WELL compensated when even the SA was stumped when my F56 was delivered and I asked him this question. This feature was STANDARD on my R56. I was told when I ordered my 2015 CDA Version that it would be standard. I told my SA that I MUST have the digital speedometer. It is something that I can't live without. Unfortunately, their are way too many features and options when ordering a Cooper. It is overwhelming for the SA and Customer. Simplicity is better, take out the guesswork when ordering and displeasure when delivered !

In my country, Denmark, On-Board Computer is a £387 option, unless you choose one of the packs which includes it. Sucks bigtime...however, a lot of the information the OBC provides is available on the central display - just not digital speedo.

Sat nav will give you a VERY accurate digital speed if you do get a car without one -and it is bang on on the flat-not so if you are going up or down hill of course nad you have to put up with (if you are like me)annoying cables and the temporary nature of the thing!
Just a quick (and unpleasant) update from Mini Greece. They require 300€ to unlock the software that can display the full BC information on the speedometer! This is really crazy. Any ideas to solve this 'problem' ???
I have the same here in the Netherlands with my Cooper F56. The BC is only showing the cooling temperature. Before it was a basic feature, now you have to pay extra to get all the info like speed, average speed... Ridiculous for a premium car. I will see how I can get it unlocked but not via a Mini dealer for EUR 300 !

A small consolation is that the digital speedometer can be activated by the coding process. It is not an easy process though for rookies like me, but I intend to try.

I have an F56 MY2015 and this is standard. So they remove features now, instead of adding? Do you have the Visual boost and OBC, or just OBC? If you code your car you void the waranty so I suggest you do it after the 2 yrs.

The mini Visual Boost was standard, but the OBC was extra something like 300€ more.
If coding voids the warranty, that is an issue, I have to re-consider. But I will check with my dealer.
I would like to continue the discussion about coding and possible voiding the guarantee to another thread ('First Bit of Coding') that is more relevant.
Thanks

Try this. press the button on the end of the indicator stalk to change the display info in the speedo. When it shows “0 mph” leave it for a few seconds. A large display of the speed digitally will appear! Or it does on the Mini Cooper that I have. Good luck!
