I have the basic radio, how do I turn it off and not just mute the sound? (when driving).
Secondly, when I have my Iphone connected and playing music through the aux socket I can skip tracks back and forward on the dash but does anyone know how to pause the track playing?
Thirdly has anyone noticed that the playback level seems to vary, very slightly, when the source is the iPhone when listening to a track ( not between tracks).
Thanks
Matt

Push the left knob to turn it off.

I don't think you can pause the track. I think if you turn the radio off it will stop playback and remember position.

Have not noticed a level change, but then my ears have seen better days.

I've tried pushing the knob and it just mutes the sound. Holding it down does nothing either.
The only time I can turn it off is if I stop the engine and then press the start stop without my foot on the brake (it's an auto). Then the mini logo come up and then disappears.:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::p

No off
I am under the impression that the left knob press acts as @Derrymilk describes. Yes, the unit remains powered on, but no music plays.

And as far as I know, the only way to power it off is with the fat red button. When the unit powers off you can briefly see the MINI logo then it goes dark.

I have the XL. And if the car is off and you want to turn on the radio, but only the radio you have to power on the hole car and stars the air conditioning, the PDC, the lights etc. Oh my god!
Interesting. I have the base radio, and all I do is push the knob in and the radio starts right up. Never go near the fat red switch.

To shut off the display hit the Option button on the right of the second knob and its the second or third selection down.
Ok will try that.
I find it annoying that even if you turn the radio/ head unit( when you have been using the usb to play a memory stick) off before you get out, it will start up playing the the SD stick from where you left off.

I am glad I found this thread. I've been back to Mini this morning to try to get it sorted but it seems that my base radio is, by their standards, fine.
Unfortunately I don't want the radio on the display but I do want the clock. In order for that to be on the display I have to select it in the options every time I start my car, as it doesn't remember. I am sure my R56 did. Does anyone have a fix for this? Is there an option I am missing or is it that Mini assumes we all listen to the radio when driving? This is a real niggle for me. Grrrr.

My radio kinda flips between the same station with a different sound. Like it's going between cells - or something. Quite annoying. I have an upgraded radio. HK.

Very annoying I think you can turn station tracking off in the uk ie stop it finding stronger signals. It might be in a menu somewhere. Sure I've seen it!
