Finally got my F55 S today (well, yesterday, it's past midnight here), very excited, much better than my old car (gen 1 Mazda 3), still getting used to all the buttons in the car but I'll have plenty of time to do that once I start my commute to work next week...

Anyway, I am thinking of installing a snap in adapter for my phone, however looking inside my armrest, I am not sure how that can be installed... can anyone shed some light before I spend more money on this car? :D

Doesn't look you like your can. I have the snap in phone adapter and my arm rest looks much different.
I think for 2017 MY there was a change to the arm rest and support for the adapter ceased.

Looking at the brochure, it says this is standard equipment:

Bluetooth mobile preparation with USB audio interface - includes front armrest. (A snap-in adapter in the centre armrest is available via Genuine MINI Accessories at additional cost. Snap-in adapter enables charging and external roof aerial functionality)

But that was for November 2015 production, mine was made in June this year, so maybe that's changed since ?

Std Bluetooth with audio streaming is not the same as enhanced bluetooth...

I have std. Bluetooth with audio streaming and my daughter Mini has the enhanced bluetooth which has connector for cradle in armrest where as mine does not.

So e options may vary from location though

Hello - New to the Forum here and I'm trying to figure this out too. Just about to collect my 2017 JCW (U.S.) and have found 2 BMW part numbers floating around the web (and this site), and one appears to be specifically for an iPhone 6 or 6s (*not* a 6 or 6s plus), and the other is a "universal" adapter that basically has a lightning cable and offers flexibility to handle any iPhone with a lightning adapter (provided it would fit in the compartment).

My question is, can anybody (or can I) determine if either of these parts will fit into my 2017 JCW center compartment? I have every imaginable option on the car including Technology Package as they call it for 2017, which includes Mini Connected XL and the wired package (so I'm pretty convinced that I would have the correct Bluetooth version). I called my local MINI dealer parts department and was told that they do not make an adapter for anything higher than iPhone 5/5s - so that confused me...

BMW Part numbers that would appear to work:

84 21 2 407 464 - iPhone 6 specific adapter
84 21 2 365 786 - Universal iPhone adapter w/Lightning connector

Please share what you might know about these adapters. Thanks!

Snap In Adapter is no longer an option as of late MY2016 (May/June builds). Anything built after that will look exactly like chocobo's - there is no pre-wiring or anything.

The snap in adapter had very few people actually buying the (ridiculously) expensive cradles that duplicated existing functionality so for cost-saving, MINI/BMW killed it off.

jkwireless, if you have a 2017, you will not have the snap in adapter pre-wiring available so basically, you cannot use it. Your armrest will be just for storage, just like chocobo's. The part numbers you have, however, are the correct part numbers for the F56 though so for those reading that DO have the snap-in adapter pre-wiring (basically any F56 made before about May 2016 with enhanced BT), those are the part numbers you need if you want to purchase the $265+ adapter.

On my F54 there are two armrest covers that hinge out, and from your photo it looks like yours might be the same but I can't quite tell. The top bit lifts up and looks like your photo, then the next bit lifts up as well and that's where the snap in adapter installs.

Must be country specific. I've just collected my JCW UK spec, and it has the snap in adapter still present in the armrest.

Interesting...thought it was a global change. What's your build date?
