I thought I share a quark that I found while trying to upload MP3 files to the MINI HD.
When you are deleting the entire content in the HD (1G plus size), you have to wait for few minutes for the HD to clear its all data. The system does not tell you, and it reacts as if the deletion is done.
When you try to upload fresh new files into the HD right away (the MMI response is fast to do this) using USB port, the upload will fail stating "your file already exist".
I tried web search every where and checked the manual but there isn't seem to be a post that explains this.
Thought I share it here and ask others, if you ran into this problem.
How often do you want to delete the hard drive then add stuff? I've had my car 1 1/2 years and still haven't filled the hard drive and when i do i will only delete individual albums as i like what i've put on. Therefore the only time i'd do it if i was the new owner and mini or whereever i bought the car from hadnt deleted the previous owners (mind i would probably do that myself as it's personal to me!). It seems pretty quick to import stuff and certainly tells me how that is progressing.
I agree however that it is definitely worth knowing and making a note of; give the hard drive time and might come in handy ! If i were a mini software engineer however i wouldnt be busting a gut to rewrite my code .
I'm trying to find how to 'add' to my collection. I did an import from USB (which was labeled MUSIC), and now I have a folder on the hard drive called MUSIC, with all the albums from the initial import. All fine so far. Now, I want to add more albums to the MUSIC folder on the HDD. I load different albums on the USB, plug it into the car, select import and it creates a second folder on the HDD called MUSIC, and copies the new albums into there. How can I keep adding to the already created MUSIC folder? It's driving me nuts.
I keep a exact duplicate of music folders and files in my 8G thumb drive. As I modify my music folder on my thumb drive, I scrub the Mini HD and import the thumb drive content. I found this most convenient thus for the quark I found. Maybe others have figured out a better way but keeping a duplicate file make the configuring much easier when deciding what to add or delete at your computer.
