BMW of North America is recalling 38 model year 2014-2015 MINI Cooper Hardtop 2 door vehicles manufactured February 25, 2014, to May 16, 2015; 2014-2015 MINI Cooper S Hardtop 2 door vehicles manufactured March 28, 2014, to May 9, 2015; 2015 MINI Cooper Hardtop 4 door vehicles manufactured October 17, 2014, to June 2, 2015; and 2015 MINI Cooper S Hardtop 4 door vehicles manufactured November 24, 2014, to June 11, 2015.

During a service appointment, the vehicles received replacement front passenger seat cushions (which contain integral Capacitive Interior Sensing (CIS) functions). The CIS functions may have been incorrectly calibrated, and if so, would cause impaired occupant classification and thus inappropriate air bag activation/deactivation.

Inappropriate air bag activation/deactivation can increase the risk of occupant injury in the event of a vehicle crash.

MINI will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger seat cushion, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 28, 2015.

Owners may contact MINI customer service at 1-866-825-1525.

A 6 Pound Purse:eek: No Purse Thief will mess with you. The Sensors on my Passenger Seat are very sensitive too sometimes the Warning Light comes on when I lay the Iphone on it. My Dealer told me that is somewhat normal.

Learned about this when looking for a deal on Black Friday. I found the *perfect* for me '15 MINI I wanted with the options I wanted; right before I walked out the door the dealership called me back & said that I can look at the car, but can't buy it…as it's under recall.

I asked a ton of questions about when/if/how the car would be repaired, but the manager stalled me & said "…I don't even have the parts from BMW yet to repair the car…so I can't give you a timetable as to when I can fix the recalls. I've got 30 MINIs on my lot that I can't do anything with."

Ended up buying something else, but I was bummed that the car I originally wanted couldn't be sold.

I would have stood my ground for the MINI you wanted, unless they gave you a smokin deal on another MINI......that sounds like a "line" to me....they just wanted to sell you something else. That doesn't sound like much of an issue (easy fix). You'll probably see it on the lot in a couple weeks! (BTW, I'm not just trying to make you feel bad....I just don't care for excuses by dealers in order to sell you something else, and that sure sounds like what happened in your case. Anyway, hope you like the MINI you did buy!).

I work for a dealer, and a car cannot be sold if it has a pending safety recall, until the recall has been repaired. That is the law in the states. If it's an advanced notice, like the one we are talking about, then there are no parts and their hands are tied. They should have removed it from the lot, though.

I understand that, but what's wrong with working with a buyer if the buyer is willing to wait until the repair has been completed?

Probably because they can't show it to test drive. They have no idea when parts and repairs will be released, so they probably would rather work a deal on another car.
Thank you for your two posts on this after mine--what you described is the exact situation I was in. I really, really wanted the car that they couldn't show me, let me test drive or anything.

I didn't ask why it was still on the lot--business manager said he's got 30 MINIs like that on the lot that he can't do anything with.

It's ok...in the end, I got a sizable sum off of a brand new '16 MINI with 17 miles on it in a color I didn't think I'd like but now love. Sure--there are still times I wish I had the VB, Harmon Kardon & center arm rest--but really I'm about the drive right now & the options in the car I have are perfectly fine.

I do wish they'd remove those recalled vehicles from the website though, and the lot if possible. I know it can't be that easy, but I wish it were possible. Would've saved me from getting my hopes up there for awhile.
