I know, 99% of us will report "nothing, go away!". But in the midst of all the love on this board for our awesome MINIs, surely there must be a few little annoyances that irk people. Time to bring balance to the board, people!

I'll start with the obvious one: Why do we have to switch Driving Mode to Sport Every. Freaking. Time.? Why can't the thing remember the mode like it does 5,000 other far less impactful setting? I have a callus on my finger from hitting the Sport button every time I started my R56 for two years.

Every now and then I forgot to hit Sport and momentarily freaked out that something was wrong with the car.

Think of the humanity, MINI! Save the Driving Mode!

I could do without the TPMS. Certainly a system that uses internal sensors.

Not Mini's fault, the powers that be insist that it must be fitted to all new cars but cost wise it has screwed up my winter wheels/tyres economics. I can not really justify having a second set of sensors and I don't want to swap tyres over on the same rims.

I don't like the fact that I have to hit two buttons on the steering wheel to change a radio station or to skip a song in my media playlist. In my previous MINI, one press of a button was enough to do a fast scan of the stations.

I don't like the delay before I can lock the car with the small button on the door handle (Comfort Access). I sometimes have to press 3 or 4 times on the button before the car can be locked from the outside without the keyfob.

Using the media controller on the center console is not easy with the armrest down. Kind of crowded place.

I must say those are the details that are annoying to me. Everything else is such an improvement from the previous models.

Me too Johann ridiculous the abs system on the r56 worked brilliantly at no cost to me. I've just bought the tpms's and had them fitted to some aftermarket alloys by which time ill have spent £600 grrrr. And the dealer can't pump the tyres up as the tpms valves hardly stick out of the alloys and one alloy is scratched. Transit damage I should've checked them . Now the tyres are on do I complain or not. ? I am not very happy. Hope we get some snow! And of course in 5 years time all the batteries will be flat and I have to start again. Even more grrrrrrs!

Interesting. I hadn't thought about that but it makes sense. I always liked having TPMS. Never thought about the additional cost and hassle factor.

Is the TPMS system different in North America than it is in Europe? I had my winter wheels/tires installed last night and the TPMS is still active. Nothing special had to be done for the new wheels or tires, no additional purchase necessary.

I also think the arm rest gets in the way of the controller.

And the heater is rubbish. Heated seats brilliant though. My previous four Peugeots had brilliant heaters. Not looking forward to the colder weather :(

I don't like not being able to turn off the footwell lighting at night, it's a distraction. I'm all for pretty lighting but they're a nuisance ....especially for passengers.

Why is there no MUTE button on the steering wheel? Only way to pause the ipod or mute the radio is to turn it off altogether.....

You can turn the lights right down using the roof control Donna. One push dims I think and a hold on it makes them scroll or otherwise!

Coupled ambient/instrument lighting

I have not received my F56 yet, so this may be an invalid complaint, but here goes:

On the R56, the ambient lighting was coupled to the instrument lighting. The only way to control the brightness of either one meant that the brightness of the other was also affected.

I like the ambient light, and preferred it fairly bright. But to get that I had to dial up the instrument lights so bright that I had Orange Fever and could barely see the road. So I turned it down, and alas, feeble ambient light. D'oh!

Does the F56 lighting work the same? Or can the instrument lighting be adjusted separate from the ambient lighting?

The scroll wheel on the dash adjusts the ambient and the instrument panel.

I'll have a fiddle with your suggestion though Jeremy......

The heater/fan has been rubbish in all three iterations of the car, its never been powerful enough to ventillate the whole interior. Also they still havent managed to fix the side window smearing. Other than that having come from an R50 and R53 i havent got much to moan about, most of the minor niggles have been engineered out

The only irritation so far occurred this morning when i opened the drivers door and a whole heap of rain water splashed onto the edge of the seat. Opened the passenger door and the same thing happened. Not investigated how this happens yet.

I live in Québec, Canada, where snow and cold are a way of life from 5 to 6 months each year. In my previous Clubman S 2011, I never had any problems with the heater. Températures are getting near the freezing point now so I'll be able to test the heater very soon.

As for the side window smearing, you're right that it's still a nasty problem.

Coming from years of VWs:

I'm not keen on the foglight switches, they do their job but I can't see them when I'm driving without contortions. Used to having the main switch pull out once for fronts, again for both.

Also dimming the rearview mirror, it's a bit of a stretch anyway, the button is not very grippy, and you have to rotate it rather than push forward/back. I would consider the extra £100 odd for auto-dimming in future.

Interesting to hear your views on heater and heated seats Donna. I think the heater's ok, just the fan needs to be mach3 for full effect.:D My golf wasn't brilliant, heat dropped off when cornering thanks to a dodgy matrix.

the scroll wheel adjusts both simultaneously but they can be controlled individually by the central screen on the dash. I have my dials on bright and ambient on medium - guess I have orange fever haha

But what if I don't have a central screen? I didn't buy any of the electronic gizmos.

Good question, not sure if the setting is there with the basic screen - perhaps someone with the basic screen can help :)

Mike ...... I think the foglight switches are in totally the wrong place too - such a grope to try and find them ... however the lights themselves are excellent! Why couldn't they have put them on the trim just above where they're situated currently - where you can see them through the steering wheel?

Main beam....still can't get to grips with pushing away to get full beam - in all my Pugs it was a pull to activate - I keep flashing my beam first before I remember!

Totally agree with the interior mirror dipper - I cuss constantly about being to much of grip to go for auto dimming! When I had the RCZ, auto dimming made it impossible to see anything out the tinted double bubble screen .... I thought the MINI would be the same with the tints but not nearly so bad ..... I'll just put up with being dazzled!

Heater shouldn't have to be on such full whack that you can't hear anything above it.....plus its a shame the heated seats don't count down like the RCZ ones did, you have to manually turn them down/off. But I like a hot ass on a cold day.......

Me too 're the bum warmers though they aren't as good ie don't get anywhere near so hot as my r56 or my wife's roadsters. Ah well, probably some health and safety thing . Not used the heater yet it's not been cold enough.however my r56 was toasty ! Agree 're fogs Donna crazy switch position. I will forget they're there! R56 they were on the toggle switch bank which was better but I'd trade it for where the window switches are now. Much better! X

- I think the trunk open button on the back is too low (but thats with most cars I guess)...

- The arm rest gets in the way of the controller

- The dangling boot cover when the boot/trunk is open needs to get out of the way more.. it should have an option to flip it up

- No option of a "chime" when you're locking/unlocking the car unless you have an alarm as an option

- I find the passenger mirror is too low (part of it is covered by the door like it's hiding from me) .. to see more I'd have to raise my seat quite a bit higher.
