9 Month old mini cooper in black, come to it on my drive today - and i find this on the back! It's like a chip, but down through the paint and basecoat to the bare metal!!? WTF? It's on the *back* of the car so I doubt it's a stone chip... Anyone seen this before? Could it be malicious?

I genuinely have no idea what this is.

Impact by an air rifle pellet? It must be some projectile to dig a hole in sheet metal like that, but any actual firearms round would go through.

But an air pellet wouldn't account for the paintwork damage around it - was this the mess someone made getting the air pellet out?

Yep.. confirmed by some people on another forum: air rifle lead pellet at an angle - probably while I was driving.

It looks (from the angle) like it was done while moving - so I've virtually no chance of finding who did it - I don't even remember hearing the dink. I would have just assumed it was a stone anyway. Gutted. Any ballpark ideas on the cost of getting this fixed?
