Where to park my new Mini

7390 Views 30 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  polarisboy385
My car should be arriving soon and I'm wondering what is the best way to go about parking it?

Here in the States we seldom park on the street. Most of us park in parking lots in front of stores. This means there is usually a car parked on either side of your car.

Obviously I don't want my car to get any dings or scratches, so the other option would be to park it on the outskirts of the parking lot (further away from the store), where there are fewer cars parked and chances are you can park without having a car right next to yours.

I'm worried about parking farther away because this will make my Mini stand out, and would this make it more likely to be vandalized?

So which is best, parking it among other cars and risking someone slamming their door into your car, or parking far away and risking it drawing attention?

Sorry if I sound paranoid!

Gooberhead, clueless people, idiot, door ding idiots, subhumans, numbnuts, door dingers, cluless dolts...Uke, just wanted to let you know, yours was one of the most entertaining posts I've read in a while. The words you use to describe the morons are hilarious! "Subhumans" is my favorite!

Thanks!!!

Yes totally agree with mac99 do they think their car needs company? Who knows but it really annoys me. On holiday we parked near the end of a large nature reserve car park in Cornwall. After our walk we returned to find that in spite of a huge empty area some clown in a huge 4x 4 with loads of kids had parked inches from my door. Their in laws were in deck chairs next door with their car so in spite of the fact that I am not too bad(dodgy hips) yelled at the top of her voice how inconsiderate the parking was and with my disability I might struggle to get in and what idiot would do that when the area was so empty. Think the comments would get back!

I have to agree with Minigirl. Uke, if there were an award for "post of the year", you would definitely have my nomination! Thank you for the great laugh (even though every word is true).

Now then you two. Tee hee hee. Agree great post and so so glad there are others out there who do the same. My wife and I thought it was just us. Having a dog we have uk cottage holidays. She always looks at the parking before booking. Not sure what well do 're airport parking when we eventuality do get abroad again.noodle door buffers?we're mentioned somewhere..Having seen watch dog I'd be afraid.the thought of them moving it is bad but then they don't bring I'd back,YOU collect it from the pound so that means every dodo coming back from benidorm With the kids could bang your doors. Am in a cold sweat just thinking about it.

Places where you are forced into some tiny parking spot terrify me. I usually try to find alternatives. in extreme cases, I'll rent a car (just to drive to the airport!) or borrow a willing somebody's junker.

Here's my Rubber Baby MINI Bumper that I made, for your inspiration. It's actually reversed-- the legs go under the car. This was designed to protect against the wife's CRV, hence the two rows of noodle. It isn't glued and comes apart easily.

If you could construct something unobtrusive that won't irritate the mouth-breather crowd, it might help protect your MINI.

That's fantastic. Have often toyed with sewing or gluing strong magnets into a noodle to Attach along the side of the car as a buffer. As you say will this just attract the ribbons? Taxi or rental are options Isuppose

I was ruminating over this today. Maybe a thick strip of clear vinyl could be affixed to the car in strategic places using hangers or velcro. If nobody looked too close, it might be hard to tell there was anything there. If the vinyl was thick enough, it could take a pretty good hit without the car being dented.

To drive off, just detatch the strips, roll them up, and throw them in the boot.

Hmm...

It's like wearing a white shirt. It's going to happen.

When I had my subaru and I parked no matter how far awar, some gamool would always park next to me. People are going to park no matter where you park, and things will happen. Just take it in stride and let your insurance deal with the headaches.

Practice good OPSEC and remove all valuable from your car that could be visible. If you don't provide an easy target, you won't become one. That's really about it.
