I've been told on another forum that most if not all F56 owners are people with no brand enthusiasm, moved down from large SUVs and have no interest in forums, clubs or driving events beyond getting groceries and donuts.

As a previous MINI owner (R55s), member of 4 MINI specific forums, member of 2 MINI clubs and frequent participant in driving events I objected to this.

So here's my questions; who came from another MINI? Who is in Clubs, forums and attends events? Who came to MINI from a large gas guzzling SUV?

I'd like a little first hand info. (BTW there is a lot of hate on for the F56 on other forums)

This will be my first Mini and my second car I've owned! Was blown away by the amount of Mini forums and groups there are and most Mini owners seem really friendly...especially on this forum! :) I don't think this will be my first and last Mini :D

I can remember the hate when BMW first launched the R50 or was it the R53 anyway I cannot remember it was also quite fun reeling in the old school mini owners about the new pretender on various forums.;),but going and attending the mini shows in our new MC was quite daunting,

My '09 R56 Cooper was traded in for the F56 Cooper S, we have just returned a '61 plate Countryman All4 Cooper D back to the lease company, as we are lucky enough to become a 1 car (and what a car!) family. My Cooper was bought because I loved my dad's '06 R50 Cooper which he has just traded for a '61 R56 Cooper S and my sister-in-law bought her '10 R56 Cooper after seeing our old one!
That's a lot of Minis between 4 people!
AND, if the Superleggara makes it into production resembling anything like the prototype, that's our next car!
After driving a couple of non Mini courtesy cars this year, I can't imagine not buying a Mini again. The build quality, handling and overall pleasure of driving a Mini is second to none.
Shame their dealers are a bit hit and miss really.

I didn't come directly from it but I previously owned a 1962 Mini Cooper and have been a Mini enthusiast for my whole life. My new mini was specially ordered as a tribute to my 62, selecting as many options to match as possible.

My "previous" car was an '02 Mustang GT but I still own it so it wasn't really replaced by the Mini.

Nonsense!

I got my first Mini in 2002. It was rubbish! In and out of the garage mainly for poor quality issues. I traded it in and got a mkV Golf, a really good car.

I got an invite to an R56 launch night and fell in love with MINI again - I owned 3 r56 minis in total.

I looked forward eagerly to the launch of the f56 and despite it being pretty much slagged off on another forum I ordered immediately after release.

My f56 is easily the best MINI I have owned.

This will be my first mini cooper, however I've admired one for over 8 years.
I am COMPLETELY obsessed with the brand and the culture... I have only went to one mini event, however once I get my first ever mini (and also the first car I've purchased for myself... the others have been passed down to me from family members).. I totally plan to go to many more events! I work as a freelance graphic and web designer at home, so my car is solely only for pleasure and the odd client meeting... the events will give me reason to get out more.

I have also left a SUV for a mini.

Bought my first Mini in January as an ex demo. 2013 R57 cooper D with CHILI Sport package.
Fancied the F56 after 20,000 miles in 9 months and very pleased. a much better car.
Oh and my only previous mini experience was when I was 18 I was allowed to drive my grandad's 1964 ultra low mileage Morris mini super deluxe. He died in 1965 and my Grandmother insisted on keeping it roadworthy although she didn't drive.
My Auntie had the car latterly and eventually it was exported to Japan having featured on the cover of a 1980's copy of Practical Classics.

This is my fourth Mini. Two minis back in the 80s, then a variety of other cars; Peugeot 205, Golf, Discovery, Merc (you know how it is, family arrives, family goes and then there is just you again!), a Mini Jcw in 2004, then a Renault, then a Fiat, then another Mini JCW and now the F56! This is the only forum I've joined.

To me, it doesn't matter who is buying the new F56. It's just great that the cars are being sold in strong numbers.

BMW will also be delighted with lots of sales to people new to the brand. The new 5 door version will surely further increase this trend.

For the record, my forthcoming F56 will be the 7th Mini I've owned - 3 classics (including my very first car) and 3 BMW versions.

I come from a BMW family... my parents have had several 3 series tourings, my sister has a 3 series saloon and her last 4 or 5 cars have all been BMWs. I traded my F20 BMW 1 series in for the Mini.... it's not straying far from the BMW tree though.

I don't see the MINI as a BMW at all. Just like if I owned a Rolls I would not feel like my car was a VW.

I've owned three MINIs from new now:

2004 R50 Cooper
2007 R56 Cooper S
2014 F56 Cooper S

I've owned other cars in between too.

The F56 is a fantastic car. I loved my first and second generations, but the third is even better. :)

Rolls are BMW too :) and yeah I understand what you mean, but the iDrive is so similar to the MINI system, it's easy to see where the two marques overlap

I've been driving SUVs since Infinity QX4 came out in 1997.
Drove three generations of the QX4.
Then switched to Lexus RX330 around 2003-2004.
Then upgraded to Lexus RX450h in 2008. (which my wife still drives now)
In between, my family got 2 generations of the SMART car which I drove for over a decade.
Recently bought 2013 Audi Q7 for me as family car (for kids and grandparents).
and finally got my dream car after all these years for my daily commute and pleasure :p

Although I've been driving SUVs for 17 years, I fell in love with the mini ever since it came out in 2001. But due to personal reasons, never had the chance to get one until now.

Don't listen to those that say bad things about the F56.
My friend drives a MCS R56 and when she saw my new F56, she really wanted to trade-in hers..hahaha...
Personally I like the old classic front design of MCS R56 but still love my new one!! It's just a matter of personal taste!!

Doesn't matter what mini version you are driving..a MINI is and always will be a MINI!!!!

Not directly but via a 7 year stint in a MX-5. i had a R50 the year after they came out. I had that chili red/ white Cooper for 2 years and followed it up with a pepper white R53 cooper for another 3 years. During that time i attended and organised many mini events around the uk and ireland. The enthusiasm for the brand was huge back then, i remember dealerships organising vip nights for owners to go see the new italian job movie when that came out. We organsied a trip to the nec car show one year with a special parking paddock just for minis right next to the entrance. Several hundred turned up that day, as they did with most events. Being in a run around the b roads with dozens of minis is fantastic fun. Its surising when you get out there how many other car clubs are doing exactly the same

2004 R53 Cooper S
2007 R56 Cooper S
2014 F56 Cooper S

I also had classic Minis for about 20 years.

The F56 MCS is a great car. I loved my R53 and R56, but the F56 is just as good and more refined without loosing anything

I bought the first R50 Cooper to be registered in Western Australia in March 2002, traded that in for an R53 S in January 2004 and bought an F56 in August 2014, the R53 was only sold on Monday this week. Along the way I've attended MINI runs in the UK, Tasmania, Adelaide and many in Western Australia where I started the local arm of clubMINI in 2004. Forums used are MINI2, totalMINI and here.

So it would be fair to say that I am a MINI enthusiast and bought the F56 because it is the best iteration of the MINI to date. Though I still prefer the looks of the R53 and the sound of the supercharger.

Why worry about Mini criticism as it's simply their loss !
There's a passion in being a Mini owner. a bond with other drivers,a stylish design, a modern classic.
They're all great.

I agree with Paul; can't they afford one, are they jealous, do they oppose change and development-who cares. I totally love my new f56 and we are total mini nuts; if I had to have a larger car we'd have a paceman or countryman! What people don't get is that there is continuous pressure on car manufacturers to be safer , less polluting etc and cars just seem to get bigger-look at the mk1 golf-new one is much larger. the mk1 escort is near identical in size to the fiesta! They cannot afford to sit on their laurels and I drive a mini because of the QUALITY , the kit and the individual dash-I hate these euro jap plastic ordinary type dashboards that vw and the like churn out!

So I bought a car with character-a mini r56 cooper s in laser blue ,because my wife bought a Highgate cabriolet and because I was so impressed with it-2 years on she buys a Roadster s-what a car, and so I have to keep up and buy an f56-another leap in terms of quality and tech. We just love Minis!
