Hey guys,

I've booked my car in at MINI to have my three rear windows tinted and they've offered to let me get it done for the price they get charged by the company they use to do it, so it's £140 + VAT, so a total of £168.

They said I can get whatever grade I like, so I was wondering what you guys think I should get... I'm not sure I want full limo style, cause I'm pretty sure that looks a little stupid on the tailgate window as you've got the heater lines...

Does anyone know what the stock tint is if you were to order your F56 with tints from factory, and if so would you prefer darker or lighter? All in aid to help me decide! :)

Thanks, I shall be posting before and after shots.

I'm not a fan of tinting, but my dealer told me that they do not tint windows..they recommend an specialist nearby. The most common tint amount is 30%-35% I was told.

The US spec MINIs can't get tint from the factory, so I had to do mine aftermarket. I got 30% on mine, which is the legal limit in my state. I think it's dark enough where it looks cool, but not so dark I can't see out when I'm driving at night.

UK law says front screen and side windows should allow 70% of light through. This % is marked on the front screen. Rear windows and rear side windows no restriction and the % isn't marked on the glass.
Not sure what the standard rear tint is but it looks good in my opinion and doesn't need to be any darker.

I have 35% tint on 5 windows, that is the darkest the law here allows on the driver and front passenger glass. However I was recently told that if an officer determines that he/she cannot see the driver that it is enough for a ticket. So far I haven't had an issue, but I don't hoon around in traffic either. I like the way a tint softens the B and C pillars and creates a lowered look. Take a look at my garage to see what I'm talking about. I like tinted windows.

Whether it's because your car is Thunder Grey and mine's Midnight Black, I can't seem to tell whether there's all that much difference between your rear windows and mine, considering mine aren't tinted.

Mine are all limo black tints front and back
How the heck have you got away with limo tints on the front? I saw an A7 get the front was ripped in the corners the other day for having limos on the front!

Aw I really love rear tinted windows! I ordered 80% on a Beetle that arrived earlier this year, prior to my purchase of the F56 - and they were really nice tints to be honest - think I'm going to go for that.

Okay, I've decided to pass on the tints for the moment as moving out seems to be more imminent than expected! Never mind, future mod for sure.

Question about sunroof tinting...

Because I live in the sunny southwest US, five of my new MCS windows were tinted to 35% shortly after delivery. :nerd: I didn't consider tinting the sunroof because of those nifty shades.

But... when working with my "new dealer" to repair damages caused by my "old dealer" I was advised it's our policy to tint all sunroofs for comfort and interior protection... you might want to consider doing that while we have your car. Naturally, I want those benefits so I gave them the go ahead.

Then I drove one of their loaners home (which carried this dealer's "standard sunroof tint"). It was like driving with a dark cloud overhead and even without using the shade, that tint level created a claustrophobic feel. :crying: Not wanting to get the same result, I called to find what that level of tint was... 5%!

So... my "new dealer" is going to ask their tint purveyor to match my side windows BUT I'm wondering what other MINI owners have chosen. ;) Any feedback would be appreciated.
