Opened the passenger door first thing this morning and the window opened half way not the normal slight drop. Closed the door and the window closed fully, then opened drivers door but window did the slight drop as normal. Strange I thought so drove into town and parked up, on return the passenger side did the same again but this time the drivers side half opened as well. So decided to do a reset and opened and closed the windows via the key fob, seems to have done the trick but will keep an eye in it.

This happened to me in my A3

They changed the button console on the door but it still happens the car is with my parents now - I won't do anything about it because it's out of warranty and it does reset itself but I'd be inclined to take it back and tell them about it

Their could therefore be something amiss in the central computer for arguments sake or it's just the button control panel on the door

mmm remember I had that happen to the drivers door the week I collected it. A bit worrying when it's in a dark multistorey (I worry for car security). Happened again yesterday in the work carpark (only about an inch this time) it was 4-5 inches the first time. I keep hoping it's 'driver error'.

I'll see if I can try that reset thingy......

My dealer told me if you press the key fob button twice to open. the driver side door will drop the widow half way. He told me that this is for when you are in a tight space you can get in to the car easy.
Maybe you pushed it twice?

Hi thanks for your reply, I didn't do that as I have just set it to one push all opening and before that since delivery it was set to two pushes to open all doors and the windows never dropped halfway. Thinking about it, I wonder if changing the settings has upset the system some how. My reset seems to be working, but if it does it again will contact the dealer.

Not quite right. If you press and hold the open button the windows will go down until you release the button.

You can also close the windows by pressing and holding the close button.

Guys, press & hold will open/close the windows, but a double-press of the unlock button causes the driver's window to drop halfway as you open the door - it automatically closes again as the door is closed.

I had no idea about this until Charly01 mentioned it - and I tried it myself today. However, this does not explain the reported incidents where windows have seemingly opened whilst the car was locked & unattended.

NB: my car is UK specification and does not have keyless entry - so those overseas & with keyless entry might wish to test and add their findings.

had this problem with my 08 clubman. I would
come out in the morning and the drivers window
will be open by about two inches. I booked it
into a dealer and they had it for a week tracking
down the problem. they even had it hooked up
to BMW in Germany. they replaced the complete
electric window module and problem solved.

After all the suggestions Ithought I try the double click this morning, the drivers window didnt open but the passenger side did! Drove to work and parked up locked the car and tried the double click and the windows just dropped slightly as normal, beats me whats happening. Im going to have a mess about with the settings at home tonight.
