Hi,

Had the same issue in a Friends Car, mini cooper 2016

Cruise Control Failure
Speed Limit Failure

If you wiggle the steering wheel quickly left to right the fault normally disappears for a short time.

After some googling its the squib ring failing, (the unit directly behind the steering wheel with stalks on)
other symptoms are temperamental steering wheel controls / horn operation.

Bought a second hand unit from flee bay £30 to £50, and swapped it over no coding required, fault gone everything working as it should no error messages.

The hardest bit is getting the Airbag off.

It does seem to be a common issue, it was the first time I had seen it.

Its my guess yes mini are aware of it, as to whether they admit to it is a different matter.

If the part is purchased new from mini that's going to be expensive, my guess £200 - £300 plus labour

You could get your own unit from ebay (link below) then ask a garage to fit it, total £200 or less depending on the labour rate.

I did it in less than an hour.

Hope this helps
