Hello! I’m new here, I’ve joined looking for some help on figuring out what could be wrong with my 2015 MINI Cooper.
Over a month ago, a notification came on saying, “drivetrain malfunction, cont. driving possible etc.”, the message lasted for about 10 seconds and then disappeared. There was no change in driving or any noise coming from the car. The message had come on 2 times (about 2 weeks apart) before I took my car in for it to be checked out, they scanned it, and found a faulty code (1A2004) electric fan, activation. They did a diagnostic test and found the electric fan functions at all percentage of speeds, they looked at the wiring and didn’t find anything/no rodent damage, however, they found there was some corrosion on the cut off relay (DME and power module), and TSB for the cooling fan faulty code, that stated to perform a software update.
They replaced the relay and updated the car’s software.
About 2 weeks later, the same massage came on again. I take the car back and have them scan it, it’s the same faulty code (1A2004). They don’t know what it is, can’t find anything, the code/message disappears so it’s not present.
Yesterday, the message appeared again, I’m noticing it pops up about every two weeks. The message has come on a total of 4 times so far.
My car just hit 40 thousand miles, this is the first time any message/anythings happen, I’ve had to change the battery once etc., but that’s it.
I really baby my car, so I noticed the slightest things, here are some other things I have noticed;
Any help/or idea of what it may be from anyone who’s heard/or had this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I really baby my car, so I noticed the slightest things, here are some other things I have noticed;
- There’s been a few times the AC would blow warm air, and then it would start to get cold.
- I don’t drive much, so, if it sits for a day or 2, I go to start it and it’s been have a hard start, but if I drive around, park, go to the store etc., and turn it on, it doesn’t have a hard start.
- A while ago, this happened a few times as well; I’d start my car, I’d put it in reverse, and it would sound like it was going to stall. This hasn’t happen since then.
Any help/or idea of what it may be from anyone who’s heard/or had this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
