Ignition (start/stop) button light comes on spontaneously

Hi @Shae I never experienced this behavior but you mentioned car camping.

I’m wondering if the key fob is left inside the MINI will this cause the ECU or other modules not to fully turn off or sleep which in return will intermittently wake the Start-Stop switch 🤔

- If so this could be normal behavior…

In the next few days I plan to wash-detail my MINI (weather permitting) and I will leave the key fob inside and see what happens.

Did you get any joy? My 2014 countryman has a similar issue. Car is locked and for about an hour, the start/stop engine button keeps illuminating intermittently and at the same time a buzz from under bonnet sounds for around 15 seconds. Does this fit around an hour. In the morning a warning on my dashboard, increased battery discharge!

Hi @AlisonY thank you for replying to this thread. I forgot to post my update/findings a while ago.

Leaving the key fob inside the MINI (unlocked or locked) will intermittently cause the Start-Stop switch to illuminate multiple times at random. This behavior will stop once the key fob is outside the MINI and it’s locked.

With your Countryman I wonder if the ECU is not fully going into its sleep state after being locked 🤔

- The buzzing sound is the high pressure fuel pump priming. With this behavior occurring all night that would discharge the battery.

I would contact a MINI Service Center to be diagnosed/scanned. Maybe a module/sensor is not functioning properly or maybe there’s a grounding issue.

Keep up posted and I hope this points you in the right direction -Rich
The key fob is never left in the car so not sure that’s the cause. It’s hum like buzzing sound that last 15 seconds, a click to start which in turns sort of turns on (lights up) the engine start/stop button near where key fob goes in, stays on for 15/20 seconds then clicks off but does the same every minute for about an hour then it’s quiet all night. When I get to start car in the morning, it starts but symbol that means increased battery discharge! Really annoying

My cd/radio was faulty. I removed the fuse and the issue has stopped. The battery isn’t draining anymore. I am having a new upgraded apple play/car play installed later next month. The noise still buzzes but I think it’s where everything is shutting down. After around few minutes it’s now silent. Just hope when the new one goes in and the fuse is replaced the issue is fully resolved.
