Manually close sunroof

This is exactly what mine is doing today. I have a 2016 F55. I went to open the sunroof today and it opened very sluggishly, which concerned me, so I went to close it. It wouldn't close without assistance. The passenger side moves forward under power, but then the drivers side twists and the whole assembly binds. If I put my hand behind the drivers side, standing outside the car, and push the glass forward at a steady speed while using the motor to close, I can get the panel to the vent position, but the drivers side corner won't drop down flush. I've opened and closed it several times like this today looking for something obvious that may be jamming the track. It sounds like maybe a cable has broken. I just got it back from the shop this week after getting motor mounts replaced (maintenance) and the JCW Pro Exhaust Tuning put on (fun). Sad to have to send it back.

The pop is one of the cables that pulls the panel open and closed. The fix is a $300ish sunroof repair kit from Mini, and a full day of labor to remove the headliner and trim, repair sunroof track and replace headliner and trims. My local shop charged $1,600 total. A real pain.

About $1,500 at my local independent Mini shop, mostly labor. There is a sunroof repair kit that Mini sells with replacement cable cartridges for the sunroof. With mine, one side snapped so the motor would pull the glass on one side a bit then stop and reverse. The kit includes cables for both sides, so get them both replaced. The hard bit is the headliner has to come down to access the repair place, and getting it off and back on looking neat is tedious.
