Having same issue. Sitting outside an AutoZone as I type this. About to try getting some lubricant for the tracks. I heard a slight pop yesterday when I opened the sunroof. Today, it opened with no issues but is now stuck open.

The pop is one of the cables that pulls the panel open and closed. The fix is a $300ish sunroof repair kit from Mini, and a full day of labor to remove the headliner and trim, repair sunroof track and replace headliner and trims. My local shop charged $1,600 total. A real pain.

I was able to get mine closed up to the point where it engages with the windscreen that’s attached at the front by pushing upward on the glass while pushing the switch forward to close. I noticed at a certain point that the passenger side of the sunroof was moving but the driver side was getting caught on something. I heard the pop again and it seemed to come from the little windscreen. Now I just need to figure out how to get it to fold in the windscreen like it usually does to close completely.
