That's why tyre makers sell to car manufacturers. The sell them very cheap job lot deals and mini buy from the best offer at the time. The tyre maker hopes most will simply stick to the same tyre when it comes to replacement. So I was told . But if you're happy why not.

No I think you misunderstood me. The tyres Mini choose are always premium and always good, but there are usually better out there if you look or similar for less money. For example my se came with Pirellis . They're ok but all the tests show that the Hankooks were better in everyway. And Cars arriving just after mine came with those.

You only need to read the tests to realise there's a big playing field out there . I bought a car with cheap Chinese tyres. It was lethal. Soon sorted by spending a bit more money.

Mini do not put tyres on because they're the best available. They put on premium tyres that are always good but invariably not the best since they base their premium choice on vfm. I was told as much on the factory tour but not quite so bluntly. When I asked which tyres are fitted and why he said BMW test a variety of tyres from premium manufacturers( star emblem) that fit our spec ratings etc. We then source these tyres from whichever maker has availability price etc . ' So you know if they have a star they have BMW Mini approval and will be decent. Stars apear on Hankook Goodyear, Dunlop Pirellis, Michellin etc. But that's not to say they're the best at the time.

Me,when it comes to new I'll read the reviews andxtests,Evo mag, Autoexoress, check specs and but a tyre that has the best eu rating for wet grip noise and economy I can while considering price. Making sure the tyre meets factory spec eg XL strength and speed rating but I'm not wasting money on a premium tyre mini recommend if it's end of production and being bettered.unless it's a bargain! I have never bought tyres and thought they're rubbish based on this and I rarely buy OEM tyres.
