The gear change in my f55 cooper s 2017 is not smooth at all. When changing gear you push the lever into the required gear and it feels like there's a stiff notch/roughness clunk that you push past in the selector and it then goes into gear at which point it is also notchy to push into. Its the worst gear change I have had in a car, awful and spoils the driving experience. It doesn.t feel like it should be as bad as it is. It goes into all the gears fine, just the selection feels horrible.

Any ideas what this could be and how it could be fixed? Really don't want to be taking it to Mini main dealer for diagnosis as it will cost a fortune.

Thanks

if move the shifter around a bit in and out of gears it can then be smoother. e.g i go to put it in first and its really notchy and then try a couple of more times and it may have a change thats smoother. its odd

I’ve had an another look. It definitely feels like it’s the shifter mechanism. It feels kind of Grindy, but then if you wiggle the shifter around and try to put in gear again it sometimes goes in smoother . I need to try another mini and see what that feels like. I can’t remember mine feeling this bad . You push the shifter into 3rd and you feel one sort of notch of clunk then another as you push it into gear but it feels like a plastic sort of clunk. It always goes in gear no noises from gearbox
