Hi guys,

I wondered whether anyone knows whether or not you'd be able to code Apple Car Play for the standard Visual Boost on an LCI?

I've seen it be done on a few BMW F Series so just thought I'd ask!

That is a good question actually, I'm not sure - my local dealer didn't have any demo cars with the standard set up... all the £900 Nav with CarPlay option.

I presume even if it wasn't touchscreen you'd still be able to utilise CarPlay's functions, although I'm guessing the head unit and electronics behind it will be different - which could hinder the CarPlay connectivity?

Surprised you didn't add it to that long list of spec!
I was originally going to go for the Nav with CarPlay but didn't think it was worth £900, replaced it with the Sunroof seen as I've never had one before.

But sssssssh don't let @Jelster see this, my LCI order was supposed to be a secret cause you all know how indecisive I am.

2 Things from this thread....

My 15 month old Clubby has a touch screen, I would have thought that was standard on all LCI models anyway (unless you've ordered a very basic infotainment system)

Brandon, I'm happy you have decided to come back to the fold, but please make sure your glass is half full before your new car arrives!!

Well I'm off to Bali next Tuesday and will be away for 90% of the wait time, so I'm sure this will take away any niggles my brain throws my way.. Hoping so anyway!

I've not specified any additional media screen over whatever comes standard, which I'm told is as per the pre-LCI Visual Boost unit that cost £300 as an option.. Granted it has the new graphics and system update, whether it's touchscreen is another thing. That being said, do you foresee CarPlay being able to be coded?

It's not important, I'll happily use my phone - I didn't think it was worth the £900 MINI are charging for it. I just wondered if there was a way to code it, which would be a cheaper alternative... Not sure why they insist you specify their Navigation system so you can have CarPlay, when the whole point is so that you don't have to use their system.

A little addendum to this thread. I was under the impression you couldn't add CarPlay to a 2017 touchscreen headunit, but you can. I found a guy on eBay that can do it for $120 - he sends a customized file specific to your VIN that you load onto a USB drive and you basically just plug it in and restart a few times and as a result, my headunit has CarPlay just like a 2018.

As was previous noted, you need to have the 8.8" touchscreen display to retrofit, but the process was very simple and $120 USD was worth it to me.

Hi Fulvix -

Here is the link to the eBay page: https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-Apple-Carplay-Active-and-FSC-Full-set/183189032209

You need to have a 2017 Clubman or Countryman with the touchscreen navigation system for it to work. He will also turn on Screen Mirroring for Miracast devices, but it doesn't work well with MINI headunits. I would request he just do CarPlay and not Screen Mirroring.

Many thanks Siriuszero ...I will contact it.
So did you buy and tried it?

I’m buying a Mini Countryman F60 of May 2017 with the 8.8” display ...so I hope it will work on my car too.

Today I received a message from an other seller that sells the software for 250$ and, after my request for feedback or video or anything that could assure me the validity on a Mini, he shared me the link to this thread [emoji23] saying that there are a lot of people that bought his system...

Many thanks again

Yes, I purchased the code from the seller I linked to above and it works great. You can see a picture I posted earlier.. I've spent a lot of time with a 2018 model that had CarPlay from the factory and mine behaves exactly the same. No seller I've seen has video proof from a MINI, but MINI uses the almost the same system as the BMWs.

The only thing is, most sellers will also turn on Screen Mirroring with the code they send, since BMWs support it, but MINIs have never had Screen Mirroring and it doesn't work right on our cars. If anyone is purchasing the CarPlay code, make sure the seller does NOT include Screen Mirroring. Worst case, you can code it out with ESYS afterwards, but save yourself the aggravation.

No, just because the process is ridiculously easy. You download the file the vendor sends you onto a USB drive, plug it in and restart your car a couple times to reboot the headunit. The vendor I linked to did make a video of the process on a BMW if you're so inclined, though it's slightly different on a MINI. He included instructions as well.

I have a 2018 (Built in Feb18) Mini JCW with VisualBoost, but NOT touchscreen or Nav. Am reading conflicting reports about being able to activate CarPlay on Non Touchscreen cars.
As we all know, CP itself does not need touchscreen (our other car is a 2018 Q5 which is not touchscreen, you just use scroll wheel).

Can anyone help clarify?

CarPlay hack does it invalidate warranty

Can anyone tell me if doing this invalidates the car warranty? I know the various websites say it doesn’t, but I’ve quizzed mini and they say it “may”? Also I have found a website that claims the software will work on iDrive as well as touchscreen - bmw-navigation-update.com/product/mini-apple-carplay-active-by-usb/ Has anyone had it working without touchscreen?

You ordered a brand new car. I really don’t understand why you just didn’t pay extra to get it original. You probably would have paid a bit more but would have had other extras in package as well. You are experienced with your old mini for missing out on a lot of things and afterwards it is **** hard and difficult to get that extra option most of the time. In the end it costs way more if you count your spended time also and it rarely works like the original.

I always try to buy my cars loaded as possible and try to get a great discount. When selling it it is worth more and it’s easier to sell. And while using you have way more fun.
