Vivienne,
I am not aware of any legal action currently underway.
Sorry you are experiencing the same defect.
My car has been in the garage for over two weeks and will take at least one more week, as New ECU shipping from Germany. Minimum bill will be North of £5K.
We need as many people as we can who have experienced this problem to start a concerted effort and pressure BMW and others including BBC Watchdog to acknowledge that thus is a design defect and should be paid for by BMW. BMW should issue a Recall.
I am willing to head this action, but need more people to support.
What BMW do you have?
Keep all receipts and ask your garage to explain the problem and repair in as much detail as they can.
Take care
Peter

We have a Mini Cooper , diesel . It all started last week with a fuel pump sensor going wrong then within a few days another warning light which flagged up something else , which then lit up all the other sensors whilst still at the garage waiting for parts . I’ve seen a post somewhere that says in America BMW are covering this design fault . I’m thinking name and shame on Twitter to see what response I get

Vivienne,
I think we can do something here.
Could we switch to emails to allow for easier communications.
Mine is
Peterac241@outlook.com.
Please send a test email and we go from there.

Hi..my BMW X1 currently in BMW dealership being repaired over £4k...they funding 50% which tells me there is definitely a design fault. If you are not loyal they may not support at all. All went wrong after the EGR recall...been without my car 7 weeks..hired one..borrowed my mum's etc...this is a time bomb for people at a time when financially hard. Fully support any action..

how old is the car and do you think the 2 items are connected ?

My car 65 plate 53k miles. At recall health check listed faults in memory before programming. They said something might need looking at in future...no urgency...whether that was the sensor issue. That was in April 23 by July drivetrain message. It feels like they got you over a barrel as private garages can't seem to fix these catastrophic issues. I like my BMW to drive but it's being sold as soon as fixed as could happen again.

Update on my car.
Final repair bill came in £5,950.00.
The whole diagnostics system was soaked with diesel.
It needed a complete new wiring loom, a new ECU and a refurbished Turbo diagnostics unit. (apparently BMW only sell the Turbo Diagnostic unit with a new Turbo!)
I am now going to try and convince BMW that they should reimburse me for this design defect. Their current position is that I am out of warranty.
Given that this defect is fleetwide and affects quite a number of BMW owners, the questions are:
Is BMW aware of this issue as a fleet wide problem?
Why have they not fixed and funded it under a recall?
If anyone wants to add their name and repair details to mine I will include them in my letters which should add some strength to the case.
Take Care

I’m guessing my px value is around the equivalent of a repair should the worst happen
so far I kinda like my car (owned from near new, and wouldn’t want to sell it as will cost north of 20k to replace it with something newer I like.
so is a new sensor a sensible precaution or will I be messing with something that should be left untouched, if it ain’t broke leave well alone ?

I’m surprised nobody has smelled diesel if leak is in the engine bay ?

While I was at the dealers waiting for my tyres to be fitted, I overheard the service manager discussing a car that was in for the same issue; diesel in the wiring.
I think if you are a diesel mini owner, it would be worth having the fuel rail pressure sensor replaced annually as part of the service.

Hi Peter,

I just sent you an email, I am also experiencing this issue on a 2016 Clubman Cooper D with 63k miles.

Mini diagnosed it with the faulty fuel sensor and leaked diesel all over the wiring loom and ECU.

Thanks,
Kit

Hi all,
I'm having the same problem on a 2016 Clubman One D with 148K km!
The dealer detected fuel in all the electrical wiring of the engine and they quoted me about 5K of work, with replacement of all the sensors, the wiring and the control unit.
I have written to BMW and I am awaiting a response.

I can't believe a car like this has such a serious problem...

Thanks,
Maria Teresa

Hi ,
My car has just been into a mini specialist and I’m having the same problem .
It’s 2015 Mini Cooper , I really can’t afford this and I am worried what else is going to go wrong with the car
Can you advise any updates if BMW will cover this
Thanks Jacqui

hi,
Can anyone advise where I would first see this issue in the engine bay?

I had a drivetrain fault this morning, car cut out and would not start.
cleared all faults and car started again.
faults where all low pressure fuel issues.
Feared now my fault is this fault and diesel is destroying the loom/ecu etc?

thanks in advance

Wau!!! This is exactly my car now. X1 F48 65 plate, 68 miles. Drivetrain error popping up two days ago. Then the error went only to come back in an engine light warning on the cluster. Me being concerned at this point I parked it and run ISTA to see these two codes left there after deleting the fault memory.
Going to buy a new fuel pressure sensor before I take it to the nearest garage to replace. Also a new MAF sensor for the other error. I honestly hope that the leak did not happen in my case as I really can`t afford a massive bill like you mentioned.
As much as I love my X1 I will sell it after this It just too many flaws with this model. I am afraid to use my sun shade (£2k repair), the infamous torsion spring (£1200), possible EGR failure, now this potential set back £2k-7k.
Shame on you BMW!!!

Hi, my 2016 Mini has just had its EGR recalled fitted, there has been a smell of fumes for a while and i asked mini to look into this. BUT now mini have stated that the fuel pressure sensor has failed and needs replacing which has led to other parts needing replacing as well, main engine control unit, engine wiring loom, air mass sensor and oxygen sensor. They are currently quoting £4500, they are not willing to make any contribution towards the cost.
I know nothing about cars....any suggestions?
