Digital Cluster option questions

Just installed my digital cluster (62105A82428), and coded by someone else.

I've a few questions about possible options and I'm also curious about the variety of versions out there...
In case it's relevant, my 2019 LCI1 JCW has EntryNav2. It originally had 6.5" screen which I swapped (screen & surround only) for an 8.8". I later had someone upgrade me from ID5 to ID6.

1. When my engine is OFF, my 'current mpg' shows as 90mpg. I don't remember what it showed before the digital cluster upgrade, is this correct behaviour? When engine is ON it shows 0mpg correctly.

2. Why do some digital clusters have a blue circle behind the large speed display when in MID-mode (mine is grey), is this just the non-JCW version?

3. I've seen CarCreations YouTube video where he has 'Navigation' as an option in the menus for cluster display (he doesn't have a HUD installed). In mine, I have the 'Navigation' option only in the HUD menus, so if I have it enabled I get navigation prompts in the HUD, if I have it disabled I get navigation prompts in the cluster - but I have no way of disabling navigation prompts in both. Is this correct for cars that have HUD & Digital Cluster?

4. In the menus for selecting what you want shown on the cluster, again comparing to videos I've seen on YouTube, I'm missing the 'current fuel consumption' option, I have current mpg in the cluster, but I just cannot remove it like other options such as 'average mpg' 'time of arrival' 'date' etc. Is something wrong that I'm missing it?

5. I have 'Range' as an option to enable/disable in the cluster, but it does nothing, it's always shown in the top-right of the cluster next to the outside temperature. This is something I've seen on others who have upgraded to a Digital Cluster, just seems wrong to have an option that does nothing!

All in all, I'm extremely happy with the digital cluster, it does kinda make my HUD for the speed redundant but at least I now have a rev counter I can actually see.

Also, after the coding, my HUD font is different, which is quite neat :)

Hello @JohnnyC1969 ,

I will try to answer with my terrible French English :)

I have just retrofited a 6WB cluster as well on a my 2018 Clubman.
On my side I have an issue with seat belt indicator, which is blinking... As well as I have no indicator about rear seat belt status...

Regarding your questions, I have some piece of answer:
1 - On my side, the engine temp is low when engin is off. I do not observe the same behavior is your.
2 - This is an option to code either on HU (HeadUnit) and Kombi side. You can choose between your current config and the one to change accross drive mode: Blue circle en Green and MID Mode, totally red on Sport Mode. More details here: Firmware Upgrade from ID5 to ID6
If you want blue or red color change in the menu, go and search in the same HMI for HMI_MAIN_MENU_VERSION:modern [01]
If you have the sportsmode switch, you can set it to lounge, sport or the mode your driving in

3 - As far as I know, you must code some fdl option in Kombi such as activate each parameter beginning with "navi_" . I am facing the same issue as you, I will try to find out such parameters on my side and keep you in the loop.
4 & 5: Some coding options as well I assume... I do not have more details on that.

FInally, I have also noticed the better visiblity of the HUD... I was not sure about it but my impression was right, the font is better.

Hope it helps.

Kind regards,
Nico

Thank you Nico for your reply.
And yes the font is nicer. My only gripe is the gap between the '0' and the 'mph' :ROFLMAO: It's a shorter gap when the speed is in double digits though.

1. I've found a video of a digital cluster (retrofitted, not factory fit) and his also shows current fuel consumption as 90mpg when engine is off.
So I think I can put my mind at rest with this one.

3. Also found a video for an F60 Countryman digital cluster retrofit, he has the HUD, and is also missing the option for 'Navigation' in the display menus for the cluster. So I guess it's normal.

4. I found these in BimmerCode, seem to relate to the info you can cycle through on the cluster. All were already set to 'active' though so that's not the cause of my missing 'current fuel consumption' menu option.

Here's what I got (ID6)...

This is what I'm missing (from a guy on YouTube that's retrofitted the digital dash on his F60 Countryman with ID5)

Maybe this option was removed from ID6 ? I don't remember if it was there or not before the cluster upgrade.

You can, but it's a bit of a hack.
  • Enable Navigation in the HUD.
  • Enable the rev counter in the HUD.
  • Disable rev counter in HUD for Sport Mode only.

Now navigation is removed from both, unfortunately you have to have the rev counter in the HUD.

Could not find anything in the BimmerCode expert settings.

But, regarding the toggle option for 'current fuel consumption', I found a video of someone going through the menus on their new Countryman, factory fitted ID6 & Digital Cluster, and Mini have only gone and removed this option from ID6, unbelievable!!!
So this matches mine above (except for the fact that his doesn't have the 'Range' toggle, so I need to figure a way of removing it from mine).

I think this answers all of my questions, all the niggles I have with my car is "as intended".

Hi @JohnnyC1969 ,

After searching with accurate tool, I think I have the solution for your missing checkbox...
What do you think about this setting from HU_EVO ?
Is this solve your issue ?

I will have to try it tomorrow as it's too late to run the noisy car tonight, I couldn't do it with engine off as last time it complained I was running the battery down

Looks like you got a number of the issues worked out. I just wanted to comment on how sometimes you see the blue background on the clusters. Currently you have it set to the sport cluster mode (thats not the official name) If you go into bimmercode, then KOMBI, you can change it to the coloured mode in easy mode. At least I could. Once changed to coloured mode, your HUD menus will change, yet again lol and if your bdc supports the dark sports theme on the id6 infotainment, you can get the dark red theme too. Hope that helps! Also, thanks for watching the videos!

Hi @JohnnyC1969

I think I have your solution...
To remove the "Range" CheckBox, switch to "inaktiv" this parameter on HU_NBT ECU:

Just tested and it works on my side !

Keep me in the loop
I will try this tonight, thank you again.

Great information. I really like the blue background behind the speedo. However I've noticed on clusters like this is that they stay blue in Green Mode :D
Thanks, I will certainly have a fiddle with BimmerCode (y)

Hey, I have the same car JCW F56 2019, but I live in Brazil so we use KM and petrol (not diesel). I found a countryman display on sale here and I wonder if it would fit my car as well… does anyone know that?

Hey,

Yes it will work since the kombi will adapt the display after coding.
However, you must be sure to have already the HUD on your car to be 100% compatible with this kombi.
Otherwise, you must buy and connect a fiber cable from the HU to the KOMBI.

Hope it helps.

Knd regards
