Thought I'd dig up an older thread instead of start a new one...

My Mini (built Dec 2015) has the current software:

MV-130.007.002
TV-130.007.002

The website says that the latest downloads are completely different numbers to this, yet when I try and update the car it says it can't be done.

Does anyone know what the actual latest versions are? I may already have them!

I'll check my MINI which was an October build. Make sure you're going to the BMW website, rather than MINI's. When I go to BMW's, it says that that I'm fully up-to-date.

Mine does the same, although I have different version numbers to you. In the document it provides with the software it mentions totally different version numbers.

Also when I enter my software version on the website it says it doesn't exist! Any time I try to reinstall the software that it gives me from the mini website it says it's not valid for my car, so not sure what's gone on there.

After a bit of research it looks as though I'm caught in a sort of no man's land, where an interim update was released which I installed, and then this was replaced by another version which doesn't like the interim version I've got installed.

My VIN (last 7 digits) no longer is accepted when inputting. I get a prompt which states "Unfortunately, the Vehicle Identification Number entered is not correct. Please check the information entered." Strange as I've inputted it once a month for a year with no issue.

Same for me. I tried on both the mini and bmw site, same error as above. Never had that problem before.

It seems as there is a different software versions pending on which country your in. I entered my vin in the above BMW website and it said mine is up to date. My car is a year old. I actualy dont believe it.
I did take it to a mini dealer the other day for its service and they said they dont do updates unless there is a problem

For Aussie minis, what are your software versions? Would be interesting to see if a brand new mini has the same as a year old one or older.

Just a general observation (as a Software Engineer)-- Be very careful about updating your MINI in this fashion.

I never install the latest update for any of my devices, unless there's a security issue. The reason is I have found over the years that occasionally the developers screw up and you get a bad update. People have bricked their phones, for example, with dodgy updates. I don't necessarily think that a bad update will brick your MINI, but the thing is a crazy bundle of interconnected computers, far more complex than a phone.

I always wait until an update has been out in the wild for long enough that any glitches surface, before I install it on a device. Often that means waiting for the following update to be published (so yes, I do tend to run a version behind on all my devices).

Especially if the update site does not provide a way to enter your VIN, I would be very careful about installing updates. The last thing you want to do is brick your MINI. Better safe than sorry.

Also, don't go to MINI of North Korea for your software update. Just sayin'
I would have thought BMW have tested it in the "field" before released. Having owned full fat BMW's for years where software updates are sent over the air for time to, without a problem. I realise downloading it to a device can bring on it's own problems

Yes, legitimate and conscientious vendors will beta test the snot out of any software before it is released into the wild. Glitches directly attributable to the update code are consequently very rare.

Even so, sometimes a related system will barf because of some unforeseen (and arguably unforeseeable) interaction between the old system and the new code. If some sub-system gets an update between major updates on the main system, the next main system update can expose a bug that was introduced in the subsystem update.

I trust the vendors, but fear the untested interfaces.

But you're probably fine in the end. More likely to screw up the install process than to get a bad update.

I hope someone can help with the issue I'm having when attempting to update the software on my 2014 MCSD F55 with Media XL.

I've downloaded 2 different updates:

1. UPD05074.bin from the Mini update site;
2. UPD05062.bin from the BMW update site.

Both updates fail with the error that the updates are incompatible. Can anyone help?

I've tried both FAT32 and NTFS format, and keep getting the same error. Any ideas?
