Hi guys, very new to this and cars in general actually as i only started driving a couple of months back so please bare with me and my ignorance. Bought a mini cooper sport II 2019 hatchback semi-auto but i'm trying to locate the sport mode switch...if there is one.

I know on the gear stick i can shift it left and it'll go into manual/sport but I've only got an automatic license at the moment.

The switch on the center dash is empty and I've no 'Driving' Mode' option either as far as i can see. I presume these are optional extra's at point of sale and I therefore presume the car is defaulted already to sport mode?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

On a 2019 car the switch should be clearly visible to the right of the lower center dash and should say Sport/Mid/Eco on it. If it's not there then I think the car by default is in Mid mode. It still makes the same power as a car in Sport mode but the steering is heavier and the throttle response is quicker, the dampers also stiffen up if you have the optional adaptive dampers fitted.

You do know you can use the manual/sport gear selector if you haven't got a manual license? It's still an automatic car it just means the gearbox holds on to gears for longer and you can use the flappy paddles behind the steering wheel to change gear (which you can do in auto mode too).

As MacMark says-tbh now the exhaust pops have gone-sport mode made the car pop-but ppf has killed it, sport mode as such doesn't do much-doesn't make it any faster-makes the steering heavier, and makes the throttle response quicker-all you need to do is be heavier with the right foot.!!!! Likewise sport auto is serious fun and really does hang on to the gears longer-or manual mode-you choose and the car only overides if you're going to do damage! From memory from when we had ours-so even if you have no paddle shifts you can manually select gears with the stick. If you really do want the sport modes they can be coded-some on here have done it -but you need to get the obd adaptor and the software-am considering doing so myself but not jumped yet-when our R series battery goes I'll be forced to since there's no way I'm paying main dealer battery prices-although I might be pleasantly surprised at that too!

I have seen only a very few S models that do not have driving modes. It seems strange, as you would think that would come bundled together with all S models? In any case, the info in this thread is great! My 2015 Base 1.5L does have driving modes and Sport does exactly what is described here (except no exhaust pops) and it makes for the occasional rush on the road! Although I am normally in Mid or Green.
