Hope you are well! I'm in the process of purchasing a 2018 mini hardtop (f56) but the one I like does not have navigation/apple carplay. Is there any way I can add it? I'l like to understand to factor it in to my buying decision.

Hello,
The dealers don't update the iLevel, they update the iStep, so everything will be updated.The lowest update you need is for example.. F056-20-07-5XX if you own a F56, mine is F056-20-11-5XX and it works like a charm.
They updated mine because I complained about rebooting several times in a couple of weeks(not allways) and because I still have warranty they updated it for free

Got it, thanks for the clarification. I have had issues with my CarPlay connecting and playing audio but being unable to get into the actual menu item for navigation, messages, etc. It happens intermittently though and I can't replicate it on the spot. I'll try again with my dealer and see how accommodating they are.

Yes, you need to get an upgrade.
You can get it along with our Firmware update + NEW UI

You need upgrade to latest version (i recommend 21.03) and then you can enable CarPlay Full Screen.
You need PsdzData, Windows Laptop and an ENET Cable!

Can help with remote HU Istep Firmware upgrades to the latest I-level, so you can enable Full screen Carplay yourself via Bimmercode or can do it for you on the same session via Esys. Flash of EntryNav2/EntryNavEvo takes about 20 mins, Battery charger recommended. All you need is an ENET cable and a Laptop with Strong WIFI connection.

Also can enable AppleCarplay on EntryNav2 with or without Navigation remotely via coding, provided that your headunit unit has WLAN Antenna or the WLAN port. PM for more info

Thumbs up for Moozin who remotely coded the full screen Apple CarPlay for me. Much better looking screen now instead of being bunched up all at one side. 👍

If you have an atm and you know a bit how esys works you can freely activate carplay yourself. Just make sure you have a wifi port on your entrynav2

Hi folks. I successfully activated fullscreen CarPlay 🥳 Couldn’t find anybody who did it here so i had to be the first one.

Someone i found through eBay did it for me remotely. You can find his email and phone number in de description box on YouTube.

Nota Bene:
- the CARPLAY_FULLSCREEN option is not available in Demo mode so you have to first connect Bimmercode to your car! (maybe I'm just stupid but I have tried a couple of times being absolutely convinced that you have the same coding options connected or not)
