Most def is. I don't think you need a number as it's so obvious.just show them this forum and any of thei older cars! Bear in mind their fix doesn't work.when they paint it apply your own film over the area else it will happen again!

 

Doesn't need to be 'older' cars! My LCI is showing already (4.5 months) and I saw my dealer's convertible demonstrator LCI at the weekend (starlight blue) that was in a right mess - much worse than my White Silver. My dealer has conveniently not got back to me after I went in 6 weeks ago to report mine...they said they had to send photos to MINI - as they do with warranty - but my damage is so hard to see on WS, you can FEEL it's definitely wearing, you can see the rubbing in a certain light/angle. But I'll just go in as it gets worse and get more vocal!

.....and interestingly enough, I saw a 17plate M4 that has EXACTLY the same issue - must be apparent within the BMW range rather than MINI..... (took photos of it too!)

I put the helicopter tape someone suggested on both our cars as soon as i got them.
and as a result have never suffered from this issue.
the helicopter tape (not sure why its called this ) is a very thick sellotape, very sticky
and very wear resistant.
could even think about using it as a stone protector for some areas of the car that are very vulnerable, ie front scoop.
it comes on a custom cut role with a backing tape, nearly the width of gaffer tape.

Paint Protection Film. It's a big thing these days when you have an expensive car you want saved from stone chips. I've seen entire cars coated in it - a bit like see-through vinyl coatings.

That's all I'm after from my dealer. But MINI need to be aware this is STILL AN ISSUE despite their 'alleged' improved seals.

 

Quite right very poor. The rubber is just too hard and rough. EBay 3 m film cut to shape sorted it and cost me less than driving to the dealer. They didn't send mini pics.just did it without question! but the more complaints the more likely they will do a proper fix.the new seals were no different on mine! I find it odd they don't do it from the factory. I don't think anyone would notice since various cars have film in odd places (usually externally tho)

 

Thanks for the replies everyone... I took mine to the dealer and they said the repaint was covered under warranty but no other measures are to be taken to avoid it from happening again....looks like it’s 3M to the rescue haha

My previous F56 got new door seals put on, so yours should get that at the very least. Paint correction AND PPF.

 

New door seals don't work so get the film out!

 

Anyone dealt with this in the Surrey area ? Just noticed the same on mine and would like to get it sorted sooner than later. It isn’t too bad yet but would like to deal with it ASAP from a dealer whose work is good and won’t quibble.

You are absolutely right. I've checked my M4 and sure enough both the driver and the passenger side B pillars are suffering the very same affliction as my poor MINI did. Looks like another visit to the body shop. For someone as OCD as myself, I'm surprised I never recognised this paint rubbing much earlier.

Incidentally, the outer edge of both B pillars on my MINI is now really rubbed from pretty much top to bottom so I'm getting that looked at under warranty before it runs out next month. The paint that the BMW Group use is obviously rubbish.

Those who thought that the thinnest substance known to man was an Aldi Value bin bag have not experienced BMW/MINI paint.

 

I've just had mine repaired under warranty, 15 plate Cooper S. Dealer said right away that there was a puma scheme in for the repair and got it booked in that day. Repair was removal and respray of the paint then a plastic film placed on top. They also replaced the door rubbers. Took 2 days to complete but this was mainly down to waiting on the paint to dry properly before placing the film.

 

Dealers do differ as mine say they've never heard of it!!

Any they are one of the largest in the South!

 

It's not the paint. It's the door seal!
