I've got to buy something large enough and would rather get a faster one as long as it's going to work.

The ports in your MINI are USB2. USB3 is backwards compatible, and works just fine. I use a 64GB USB3 stick to do mine.

The person I bought my FSC code from via eBay was super helpful. He suggested USB 2.0 would be the only one to work for this, despite USB 3.0 working for other things such as software update and media.

It finally worked for me on a 64gb Sandisk USB 2.0 stick.

Thanks both. I know 3.0 is theoretically backwards compatible, but in practice it's not always that straightforward. My PVR won't see any media files on a USB 3.0 drive for example.

I think I may play safe and go for the 2.0.

I found a spare USB 3.0 hard drive so decided to give that a go this morning and it’s working fine.
Not copied everything yet as I only went to the supermarket but it’s going to save me a few quid.

My car was built in October 2016 so it probably isn’t technically eligible for this update...however...it looks like it’s never been updated so hopefully it’ll work.

The files are dated October 8 and my car was built at the end of October, so it looks like I’ll be ok without a code. If I do need one at some point though, I may be a little adventurous and try to generate my own......after doing a lot more research of course.

Anyone got a working link or torrent for the Evo maps? The mega link in #186 is dead. Is it still 2019-3 as I see some references to 2019-4 but can't make sense of them?

The mega link in this post is still alive and well. It’s the one I used a few days ago. Haven’t installed it yet, but it downloaded and extracted just fine.

F56 EVO SatNav Map updates

I updated the EVO Maps on my F56 XL SatNav from 2016-02 to 2018-01 yesterday. I found the maps online for free, and to my surprise I didn't need an FSC code to update them. Zero cost upgrade!

Yes the USB works fine for music, just tried it by adding an MP3 file.
This is the USB drive contents. And also my current map version.

This file structure worked in the root of the drive. It was the formatting that was the problem I had, from using a Mac.

Just as a data point, my flash drive was formatted on a Mac as exFAT and worked without issue.
